“Wonderful three night stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2013

My husband and I had a wonderful three night stay at the Ivy Lodge! It is located on a beautiful, quiet street close to the Cliff Walk and The Elms mansion. We thoroughly enjoyed our lovely, clean room, as well as the entire home. The porch and living room areas were very relaxing. The dining room was beautiful and the breakfast was absolutely delicious! There were also fresh baked goods and coffee available all day. Darlene and Daryl are an amazing couple. They made us feel right at home and had great touring and dinner suggestions. We will definitely be returning to the Ivy Lodge!

So... The rooms are very nice, and its a grand old building but man oh man...our little 9 month old was not welcome one tiny bit!
When we arrived, the owners face melted..in a bad way! 'Most b and b's don't welcome kids'... Why say that , to make him look like aero. We were told we were not welcome at the 'breakfast' as in bed and breakfast, as she would make too much noise and I can only assume disturb other guests. He also said 'she looks like a noisy one'! Incredible that they would take our $250+ but not our little daughter. They should simply say on the website 'kids not welcome'. I would respect that and look elsewhere.

Upon arrival, I advised the guest that unlike the Ivy Lodge most B&B's do not accept children, not to be a hero but to inform him. In an effort to accommodate young children and be considerate of all other guests, we always ask guests with young children to arrive for breakfast at 8am or 10am. As any parent knows, young children can be challenging when eating in a large group setting. This policy has worked very well for thousands of guests over the years. The little one was very unhappy the whole time, I believe she was teething. After breakfast the guest told us that they were leaving due his wife being sick. When we reminded the guests that their reservation was non-refundable, they threatened us with a negative review on TripAdvisor and that they were now leaving because I made them aware that not all B&B's accept children. Myself or our staff never said that she was noisy, we made them feel welcome as we regularly have young children and families stay with us. We just had a repeat guest leave today with a 14 month old.

Back again, and never disappointed! Relaxing, from arrival to departure. Our room is always lovely. The porch is quiet and welcoming, great for reading, chatting or just chilling. Breakfast is not only delicious, and bountiful, and it's a nice way to meet new friends and share ideas for things to do during the trip. Thanx to Darlene and Daryl, again, for a wonderful three nights of R&R! We love the Ivy Lodge. Gift cards are always on our Christmas wish list! Best granola ever!

Room Tip: Every room is beautiful!

My husband and I are seasoned Bed & Breakfast guests and we both agree that the Ivy Lodge in Newport was one of the best places we have stayed in. We spent three fabulous days in the Queen Anne Room which was beautifully decorated, clean, quiet and very spacious - complete with gas fireplace. We absolutely loved the interior of the house, and the entry hall is a sight to be seen. Very impressive and well kept, you feel transported back to the famed Gilded Age.
Breakfast was delicious and there was lots of it: fresh fruit, breads, cereal, granola bars in addition to a cooked-to-order breakfast. The hosts have thought of everything and we felt very welcome. We would definitely return.

Room Tip: The Queen Anne room is beautiful but it is on the third floor and there is no elevator.

We are very appreciative of your review and the insights you have shared with others. Your review was a topic at a staff meeting that inspires us all here at the Ivy to look at the details. We learn so much from you and want to continue to be good at what we do. Your trust in choosing to lodge with us is a choice we never want to take lightly, there so many nice Inns and B&B's in Newport and we are proud to be a part of a very nice group of properties.

Many Thanks,
Darlene and Daryl

We spent a few days here during sailing week. The Inn was nicely located within walking distance from the waterfront and the cliff walk. We stayed in the trunk room on the third floor, nice room. Breakfast was lovely and we couldn't have asked for a nicer stay. We would stay here again if we return to Newport.

We agree that we have a nice location, close but not in the middle to the action. Easy walk to most of Newport yet quite and relaxing.
Hope to see you again when you visit Newport!

Went to Newport to tour the mansions and this lodge is perfectly located if you want to walk to the mansions. The room I stayed in was clean and comfortable. The inn keeper was kind and helpful giving me great tips on places to eat. The breakfast was fantastic! Anything and everything you could want to have was place out for breakfast. Snacks were left out all day and availablity to have tea at night was great. It's slightly over priced however I feel it is worth it.

Stayed upstairs in Victorian room. Very nice. Spa tub. Spotless. Bed was extremely comfortable with the best pillows ever. Only drawback was listening to the television from the room above until 11:30 pm. But that is probably the norm. Breakfast was spot on. Only real drawback is its a little over priced. I enjoyed myself.
