“Top Notch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2013

My husband and I are seasoned Bed & Breakfast guests and we both agree that the Ivy Lodge in Newport was one of the best places we have stayed in. We spent three fabulous days in the Queen Anne Room which was beautifully decorated, clean, quiet and very spacious - complete with gas fireplace. We absolutely loved the interior of the house, and the entry hall is a sight to be seen. Very impressive and well kept, you feel transported back to the famed Gilded Age.
Breakfast was delicious and there was lots of it: fresh fruit, breads, cereal, granola bars in addition to a cooked-to-order breakfast. The hosts have thought of everything and we felt very welcome. We would definitely return.

Room Tip: The Queen Anne room is beautiful but it is on the third floor and there is no elevator.

We are very appreciative of your review and the insights you have shared with others. Your review was a topic at a staff meeting that inspires us all here at the Ivy to look at the details. We learn so much from you and want to continue to be good at what we do. Your trust in choosing to lodge with us is a choice we never want to take lightly, there so many nice Inns and B&B's in Newport and we are proud to be a part of a very nice group of properties.

Many Thanks,
Darlene and Daryl

We spent a few days here during sailing week. The Inn was nicely located within walking distance from the waterfront and the cliff walk. We stayed in the trunk room on the third floor, nice room. Breakfast was lovely and we couldn't have asked for a nicer stay. We would stay here again if we return to Newport.

We agree that we have a nice location, close but not in the middle to the action. Easy walk to most of Newport yet quite and relaxing.
Hope to see you again when you visit Newport!
Thank you for your review and kind words!

Went to Newport to tour the mansions and this lodge is perfectly located if you want to walk to the mansions. The room I stayed in was clean and comfortable. The inn keeper was kind and helpful giving me great tips on places to eat. The breakfast was fantastic! Anything and everything you could want to have was place out for breakfast. Snacks were left out all day and availablity to have tea at night was great. It's slightly over priced however I feel it is worth it.

Stayed upstairs in Victorian room. Very nice. Spa tub. Spotless. Bed was extremely comfortable with the best pillows ever. Only drawback was listening to the television from the room above until 11:30 pm. But that is probably the norm. Breakfast was spot on. Only real drawback is its a little over priced. I enjoyed myself.

My wife and I spent three nights at the Ivy Lodge in Newport and would highly recommend it. Darrel and Darlene were fantastic hosts, taking great care and going well out of their way to accomodate us (along with some quite picky other guests).

The breakfast is fantastic. They had fresh fruit, yogurt, and a delicious granola that they are happy to share the recipe with you to help you recreate it at home. And that was just the appetizer! After that, there served a hot breakfast that changes daily and was spectacular all three days we were there, including huevos rancheros and waffles with Vermont mape syrup. Yum! My wife has a gluten allergy, and once Darlene found out, she was quick to accomodate with gluten free options including running out and picking up a tasty g-free muffin from a local bakery.

The room we had weas very clean and comfortable - the bed in particular was a dream. It's worth noting that the property also features a very large, comfortable wrap around porch where we noticed a lot of guests spent their afternoons sipping on iced tea and enjoying the snacks they had laid out.

Newport itself is something special. We toured a couple mansions, did the cliff walk (run, actually), went shopping, and rented a boat for sailing. The highlight was definitely our time on the water in a 59 foot Hinckley, with just the right amount of wind and some impressive coastline views, it was fantastic.

Thanks to Ivy Lodge for being such a wonderful stay us on this great weekend getaway!

Hello and a big thanks for the nice review. You two were so enjoyable and we appreciate your enthusiasm and recognition of the island and the Inn. We recommend a private charter sail, especially if you are at least three couples traveling together . . . well worth the price of admission. We can recommend the perfect sailing yacht for you.

We hope your first visit is the beginning of many you will make to the city by the sea.

Wishing fair winds and safe seas,

Darlene and Daryl

My wife and me stayed two days in June in the Van Allan Room on the second floor. Already upon booking from Germany Daryl was extraordinary friendly and helpful. The Victorian house is impressing as are the beautiful guest rooms with selected antique furniture and the rooms open to guests (large living room, breakfast room and porch). Ivy lodge is situated in a quiet area off the main road but only 10 min walk from the waterfront or town center. Full breakfast is served from 8:30 a.m. on but hot drinks, fruits and toasts are available earlier. Darlene has been of exceptional help while booking online a ferry to Long Island the other day. The place is clean, quiet and we enjoyed a peaceful sleep although the house was fully booked. The weather conditions in the second night even allowed to sleep with open windows although the aircon prooved as very effective upon arrival (check if the windows are closed!). Overall this has been a great experience and we would have liked to stay longer if only our room had not been previously booked. Early booking is recommended, which is not surprising. Thank you Darlene and Daryl for the warm welcome and hospitality, making us feel at home.

Room Tip: Would think that the second floor is great, but as the house is so quiet, first floor seems also to...
