The Cliffside Inn is a wonderful and charming retreat in Newport.

My wife and I stayed in the Cliff Suite, which is located in the Seaview Cottage, a short walk across a beautifully landscaped lawn to the historic building housing the main inn. The suite features a nautical theme and was both spacious and immaculate. The king-sized bed was extremely comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep. The climate control system worked perfectly and was also very quiet. The inn is only steps away from the majestic Cliff Walk and in a quiet and secluded residential area. There is no need to be concerned about street noise here.

The breakfasts were a real treat. I especially enjoyed the bananas foster French toast and eggs benedict, which was kindly modified for me for medical reasons. Their cook is very talented and creative. If you prefer not to eat the special that is prepared for breakfast that day, they will gladly make you bacon and eggs (and their bacon is of a much higher quality than what you get elsewhere). Rounding out the breakfast offerings were crunchy and satisfying homemade granola, fresh muffins, and mixed fresh fruit. The breakfasts could not have been better.

The owners, Bill and Nancy, and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. They all exhibited genuine warmth. They clearly love what they are doing and care about their guests. Their detailed knowledge of the local area enables them to provide most helpful suggestions for dining and sight seeing.

If you love comfort, class, clean, and cozy, this is the place for you. We most highly recommend the Cliffside Inn and look forward to our future visits.

It was our pleasure to have you both here! I'm sorry you didn't get to the art museum in Boston, but you certainly found a lot of things to occupy you here in Newport. We are also glad that we could accommodate your dietary needs. Jackie loves to get creative with things in the kitchen and it was fun making your special breakfast.

We look forward to having you back with us the next time you venture north! Thank you so much for the great review and your kind words.

All the best,
Nancy and Bill

The Cliffside Inn is a great place to spend a long weekend. We stayed here for a quick getaway before the arrival of baby number 2 and we were looking for some place special and relaxing. This place was it. We stayed in the Carriage House, which was lovely-beautifully decorated w/ private entrance, water/fire pit views, a comfy bed (even for a really pregnant person!), and fantastic whirlpool tub. As others have mentioned, the proximity to the cliffwalk makes for a great location-and the shopping area is definitely walkable (although we chose to drive as it wasn't peak season and parking wasn't an issue).

We both enjoyed the "breakfast du jour" each morning-as well as they freshly prepared coffee/tea, granola, and muffins. Eating on the porch was a relaxing treat. The happy hour was a great way to unwind after a day out before dinner w/ tasty homemade flatbreads, cheese and crackers, dried fruits, and nuts.

The innkeepers were welcoming and always willing to help with your itinerary. They were able to help us find some specific types of shops we were looking for, including looking up hours, numbers, or any other info we may have needed.

If we ever get back to Newport, I wouldn't hesitate to book here again. It was a great stay!

Thank you for your wonderful review of the Cliffside Inn. We are thrilled that you like the Carriage House and were able to have a nice relaxing, romantic time away before baby 2 enters the scene. We aren't too far from Stamford, so hopefully after thing calm down you'll be able to find a babysitter and head back for another relaxing weekend stay. We are looking forward to some pictures when the new addition arrives.

Best,
Nancy and Bill

The Cliffside Inn in Newport is an incredible Bed and Breakfast. We decided to stay at this B&B for our 20th wedding anniversary. It was one of the most romantic and relaxing places we have ever visited. We felt welcome from the moment we arrived in Newport and they called to see if we needed assistance getting to the inn. The Sun Room was beautiful and the aroma therapy shower was outstanding. The B&B is close to the cliff walk and it was great to be able to walk or run every day by the water. The wine reception every evening was delightful as was the breakfast every morning. We did not want to leave and cannot wait to return as the experience can only be described as amazing.

Room Tip: Would recommend rooms on the second floor. The Sun Room was incredible!

Thank you for choosing the Cliffside Inn for your big 20th anniversary. It was our pleasure to have you here for such an important occasion. I wish the whole Cliff Walk was open, but you seemed to enjoy it just as it is! It was really great to get to know both of you and we hope you will come and see us again next time you are on the east coast.

Warmly,
Nancy and Bill

This newly upgraded and modernized B&B, has kept its Golden Age charm, and is one of the best B&B's in Newport. Close to the cliff walk, Cliff Side Inn is a perfect lovers stay, or perhaps a family retreat. The breakfast, including the buttermilk pancakes are amazing and if you are lucky, you will get to meet Koty...the mini Collie.

It was so great to have you both here for your special weekend. Koty is definitely missing your expert belly scratches. Anyone who can get him to lick them, knows what they are doing!

Thanks for posting the picture of the inn too. I like how the light puts a halo on it.

Best,
Nancy and Bill and Koty!

The Cliffside Inn is such a lovely place to visit when you really want to slow down the pace and reconnect with someone special. It is warm and cozy and elegant all at the same time. The innkeepers are delightful and the food delicious.

This was a birthday celebration weekend-- a total splurge, but worth it. When asked my favorite part of the weekend in Newport, I have been saying it was this hotel. Our group of 4 occupied the top 2 suites in the outbuilding across the lawn from the main house and loved it. So nice to walk right out practically onto the Cliff Walk and also be able to walk to town the other way in barely 10 or 15 minutes.
In our suites, the decor was a tasteful blend of eclectic and coordinated (theme rooms can be kitschy, but these weren't), and the bathrooms with deep bubbling tubs were definitely worth spending a night in for. Amenities abounded, from ample outlets and convenient bedside lamps to special make-up removal cloths and doilies. Coffee, wine, books, and plenty of fluffy towels were all on hand. The surrounding streets were quiet and the beds and bedding soooo luxurious; we slept really well.
Back in the main house parlor, the delicious hot breakfast was served expertly, with French press coffee pots for every table. (We ate ours on the porch, watching surfers on the city beach in the distance.) And the daily wine and hors d'oeuvres reception at 5 brought all the guests together for friendly mingling -- a nice way to top a day of sight-seeing. Owners Bill and Nancy are such natural innkeepers, you would think they'd been doing it forever, but they revealed that the hotel has been open only since November 2011. They helped with reservations and information, as you might expect, but also added all sorts of birthday touches for our group. And they have a great sense of fun, as in the festive Kentucky Derby-watching party they hosted, complete with mint juleps and a (don't tell) buck-a-shot betting pool. Their staff are solicitous and friendly, and every interaction felt simultaneously personal and professional. I congratulate them on running such a friendly enterprise to such high standards.

WOW - thank you. We truly hope that all of our guests have the experience you have described and are really glad that you had a wonderful birthday weekend. We had such a great time with the four of you and loved watching how much you enjoyed the other guests too. Koty is missing your expert scratching already.

Thanks again for staying with us and for taking the time to write such a great review.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay of 3 nights at The Cliffside Inn. We especially enjoyed our room, The Tower Suite, with its private outside entrance, window seat, and water view. We also enjoyed being able to eat our breakfasts (prepared by Bill) on the porch. The fire pit at night was an especially unique feature. The nearness to the Cliffwalk and Mansions was another positive aspect of the Inn. We would recommend anyone coming to spend a special time enjoying Newport,RI, to share our experience at this fine B&B.
