My wife and I spent MLK weekend relaxing, enjoying wonderful breakfasts and afternoon teas, the window seats, herbal steam showers and the close proximity to the Cliffwalk. And our hosts (who'd just bought it last year and spent 7 months renovating it) were just right. (Helpful, but not 'hovering'.)

I do love that steam shower too! Thank you for your lovely review. We enjoyed having you here. It was a great weekend. Who would have guessed a snow storm was coming a few days later. We are so happy you enjoyed your weekend here and hope you will be back soon.

Best,
Nancy and Bill

We stayed for one night at the Cliffside Inn in Newport Rhode Island and we had a lovely time. We stayed in a room (which was really a small apartment) with two fireplaces, den, living room, and large bathroom with shower and jacuzzi tub. Everything was brand new. The new owners Bill and Nancy have done a great job renovating the place and putting their personal touch in each room. The new owners gave up their former employment to start their own business (something that we all wish we could do) and we wish them all the luck. Don't think twice about staying at a bed & breakfast!

Cliffside Inn is usually appealed to couples. But, this winter my mother brought me, 21, and my 4 teenage siblings to cliffside inn. They accomodated us in every way ! The owners sat down and asked my siblings what they liked to do and suggested certain places and tours. They are absolutely the most darling people i have ever met. The breakfast we're beautifully displayed and absolutely delicious. The bedrooms were utterly breath taking. Most of all, the service was fabulous. They are so friendly and the house is so elegant. It definitely set the mood for our entire trip to newport. I cannot stress enough how the Cliffside Inn made an impression on me. I would drive the trip from florida more frequently just to relive the experience.

Recently my wife and I stayed at the Cliffside Inn for an offseason getaway. I have to say it was one of the most positive experiences we’ve ever hard staying at a B&B. Bill and Nancy were gracious hosts who went above and beyond to accommodate us not only when it came to our stay at the inn but our stay in Newport as well. They were eager to guide us towards activities, quick to offer a map and dead on when it came to restaurant recommendations. It was especially helpful that they had a list of restaurants that were open during the off season as several establishments close during the months of January and February.

The inn itself is beautifully appointed with no detail overlooked. We were lucky enough to get a tour of the entire inn with Bill pointing out the planning that went into restoring and rethinking the space. He even noted how he was having an electrician come in to install an extra electrical outlet in one of the rooms as it was important to him that guests had outlets near the flat surfaces they would use to charge their various devices.

The bathrooms in each and every room are remarkable. From two person whirlpool tubs, to rain shower heads, to body sprays, to one room that even has a steam shower with a docking station and speakers for an iPod. The inn truly embraces technology while preserving the old world feel. Be sure to ask Bill about the antique pine salvaged from old beams and milled down to use as hardwood flooring, or the Thomas Crapper toilet he had shipped over from England for the bathroom in the common area.

Breakfast each morning was delicious with a main course accompanied by fresh fruit, yogurt, muffins and scones, and a variety of beverages. The wine and hors d'oeuvres hour was presented beautifully with non alcoholic beverages offered as well.

All in all the Cliffside Inn is a wonderful place that will become a regular getaway for us for years to come.

This was our first experience at a Bed and Breakfast. I don't think that any other establishment will ever compare!!! Bill, Nancy and The Cliffside Inn set the bar so high that we will always judge our stays elsewhere by the quality of hospitality they have shown us. Not only did we feel like we were royalty but we also had the comfort of homemade, chocolate dipped cookies at our bedside each night to make us feel like we were right at home. Grandma's cookies will never taste the same. The view was phenomenal and the cliffwalk was extremely peaceful. We wish we were still at The Loft and that our stay was permanent; but all great things must come to an end.

The Cliffside Inn and it's new owners, Nancy and Bill, epitomize the bed & breakfast experience of getting away to a place that, in another life, you'd love to call home. The pictures on the website speak for themselves, so I'll just cover the home and rooms by saying they blend classic Newport elegance and modern day luxuries. We visited on a particularly cold winter weekend, but the inn always felt warm and inviting, with the crackle of a fire in every room, and the smell of all kinds of gourmet treats constantly wafting from the kitchen.

Each morning starts with a more-than-generous breakfast, with options ranging from homemade baked goods and granola, to a variety of freshly prepared entrees like crab cake eggs benedict or pear and cranberry pancakes. The coffee and tea are local blends, which is just another seemingly insignificant but ultimately charming detail to which Nancy and Bill pay attention in an effort to immerse their guests in the Newport experience.

Guests can return later in the day for tea and hors d'oeuvers in the living room. This late afternoon tradition may be common at some b&b's, but is certainly not done as well as at Cliffside. The offerings seem endless, and can change with the request of a guest, or the inspiration of the inn keepers.

The night time turn down service just caps off the personal touch Nancy and Bill bring to Cliffside, with the blinds drawn and a small treat like a chocolate-dipped cookie waiting bedside.

The Cliffside Inn is a magnificent place to call home for a few days, where you can check your real life at the door, and fall seamlessly into the care of inn keepers who embody the mantra of "we aim to please", and have a home that is a direct extension of this philosophy. I don't mean to gush, but I believe that superior service deserves equal recognition, and Nancy, Bill and the Cliffside Inn provide a truly remarkable experience. I can't imagine staying anywhere else on our next visit to Newport.

The two of us just wanted a weekend getaway to Newport and came across the Cliffside Inn. What a find! The place has just undergone a top-to-bottom renovation, and the entire facility just sparkled with elegance and attention to period detail. Our suite...the Tower...was beyond charming...turret ceiling, great water views, gas fireplace, a private entrance, and stairs leading down to a bathroom and whirlpool tub. We just wanted to pack it all up and take it home with us. Innkeepers Bill and Nancy were gracious, eager to please, and recommended the most amazing Italian restaurant: Mamma Luisa's. The inn's afternoon tea and breakfast the following morning were fit for the most demanding palate. (The pear and cranberry pancakes were to die for!). We will certainly return!
