“Castle Hill was a treat”
Reviewed June 24, 2006

My husband and I stayed at Castle Hill in the Agassiz Mansion in East Room 3 this Friday and Saturday evening. We were pleased as punch with the service - everyone seemed to bend over backwards to make our stay enjoyable and memorable. The room itself was small but not cramped, and both comfortable and beautiful as can be. We ate at Castle Hill on Friday night, and the food was delicious (have the shrimp appetizer). On Saturday, we made our way to Spiced Pear, and while the food was excellent, the service there could not compare to the service we received at Castle Hill. Breakfast at Castle Hill is also delicious and was included in our price per evening.

Do be aware that in inclement weather (we had rain all day Saturday and Sunday!) the lighthouse fog horn may sound. For us, this was a surprise and on Friday evening, an unwelcome addition to our stay. The next morning, when we inquired about the noise that kept us up all night, Jenny explained it was the fog horn, and gave us earplugs for Saturday evening (the fog didn't lift until late Sunday afternoon). My recommendation: if it looks like rain, ASK for the earplugs when you check in so you avoid the experience we had!

All in all, our experience at Castle Hill was a memorable, beautiful time. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone.

Castle Hill met or exceeded all of our expectations for a weekend get away at the beach in Newport. We stayed in a beach house beautifully decorated and our deck overlooked the Atlantic, with just a few steps to the beach. Very charming, romantic and relaxing.. We ate dinner one night at the restaurant and it was delicious as were the full breakfasts included in our rate. Lobster hash - yum! Yes it is expensive, but worth every penny- treat yourself and go!

My husband and I stayed in beach house 34 for 3 nights to celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary. The beach house was beautiful. There was nothing missing, from the tastefully done decor to the gas fireplace, jacuzzi tub and beautiful views. We could not have picked a more romantic getaway. I had asked for a bottle of wine and a flowers to be in the room and this was taken care of with no issues. The bouquet of flowers were gorgeous. There were chocolates provided with the turndown service, cookies provided on the night stand everyday after room cleaning. We were also impressed that they provided free bottled water in the refrigerator. There was also free wireless internet access. I could go on and on, it was awesome.

We ate breakfast at the mansion twice and dinner once. The food was outstanding, we were very impressed. Our waiter was so friendly and really made the overall dining experience great.

The staff at this resort were so friendly. They were always smiling and asking you if you needed anything. They would ask you about your trip and what you did during the day. They really just went above and beyond to make you feel so comfortable and you could tell they were doing it because they wanted to not because they had to.

Awesome exprience, we will definately be going back.

My wife and I spent one night at one of the beach houses. We loved it. The beach house was great. We slept with the windows open and were able to fall asleep with the sound of the water hitting the beach. The fire place had a timer so we could set it for 20 minutes and not worry about it.
The breakfast was excellent and the staff very friendly. We loved everything about the place and were upset we only had one night there. I wish we could have stayed several nights so I could try everything on the breakfast menu. The dinner required appropriate dress and we only brought jeans so we didn't try dinner there.

Just returned from long weekend to Castle Hill Inn. Wonderful place with top notch service. Room was great with large bathroom (Mary Walsh). Inn was gorgeous with great views. Restaurant (dinner and breakfast) were great food and service as well. Small bar/lounge was great for a drink before/after dinner or after returning from town. Nearby mansions were great to see along with rest of Newport. Visited nearby vineyards as well which was fun too. Overall a great place with nice staff and upscale accommodations.

WOW! What an incredible oceanfront location! Truly a piece of heaven!

As an Innkeeper in Falmouth, Massachusetts, my standards are rather high. I traveled with a female friend who sold her Bed & Breakfast one month prior to our two night visit at Castle Hill. I selected this hotel because it is said to be one of the 500 best hotels in the world by Travel and Leisure.

They only offer one room with two beds called the "Master Bedroom." Fortunately it was available. When I called to request a reservation, I was offered a very generous professional discount, as they knew I was in the business. The dignified, warm, friendly staff couldn't have been more accommodating from that very first phone call to the moment we checked out.

The complimentary breakfasts were extraordinary. The pastries were "melt in your mouth" divine. It was truly a dining experience, beautifully presented and garnished with an over the top vast view of the ocean. Couldn't have been lovelier!

My first impression of our room was another story, but I believe I heard via the grapevine that it's the next in line for redecorating. When we entered the room it was uncomfortably hot. We opened the ocean side window and figured out how to turn off the radiators, which we left off for the entire stay. It felt like we were in a sauna. We opened another window for cross ventilation and instantly felt more refreshed. The room offered two very comfortable sleigh beds with superior quality linens. I slept like a baby. The television was only a 19 inch which was undersized for the space. The "Master Bedroom" has the original wood paneling throughout which made the room feel dark and the furnishings were a mishmash to say the least. My friend was able to sneak a peek at a neighboring guest room which she said was beautifully furnished and decorated. That room appeared to live up to the standard of one of the top hotels in the world. Our accommodation, however, did not. It felt like the interior designer had used our room as a holding tank for all the odd chairs and tables that were left over after she/he completed refurbishing the other rooms. The upholstery on the chairs must have been elegant at one time, but it had seen it's day for sure. Reading light was poor at best.
Here are the high points; there were two complimentary bottles of spring water in the room, two yummy cookies, a great selection of upscale recent magazines, posh terry robes, great toiletries and the cleanliness of the room and bathroom was what we hoped for and expected.

We had room service the first night, and given the fact that the dining room is a feast for the eyes, I would not recommend eating in your guest room. The food was delivered on a undersized tray which was cumbersome at best. There is no elevator so they can't bring a traditional room service table over the main staircase.

High tea was just wonderful. A great selection of tiny pastries, blueberry scones and mini cucumber sandwiches. Also, a good variety of imported loose teas steeped for you by a staff member and delivered to various little sitting alcoves, or your room. Such a treat!

The front desk personnel arranged for us to have massages in our room and, I found the price to be very reasonable.

If you're hoping for a 5 star location, the finest breakfast this side of the moon, afternoon tea extraordinaire and attentive friendly service...DON'T HESITATE!

If it’s a romantic weekend you want then stop looking and book here! I took my fiancée here for a surprise weekend and everything I asked for was done. From rose petals, champagne, candle around the tub, classical music on the hifi, hand made truffles on the bed. It was fantastic. We stayed in Beach House 34 looking out onto the ocean. The staff treat you like they have known you forever. Nothing was too much for them to do. I could not think of a better place to stay and will return time and time again.

Everyone is so friendly and attentive to your own personal needs. The rooms are immaculate and are looked after everyday. The open fireplace adds to the ambience and the room served breakfast is the best way to start a day. It’s all here. Great Hotel, Great People, Great Scenery, Great Fresh Air!
