For a friends weekend, a wedding and related activities, this is a fun and scenic venue. Breakfast is good (and included in the steep overnight price). During our stay the large crowds included curious tourists and wedding party guests. The dining room was busy, noisy and very casual with fare to please but not our best meals on this trip or in this city. The wine list had a limited selection of french wines but many domestic selections. Although the spa menu indicates perhaps a unique experience, it was simple and small. My husband said that his massage was good, mine not so much. The cottage that we leased for 3 nights was not the one shown in advertising, instead very small with only one chair and no dresser for clothing. The bathroom was very, very large. The view was pretty to the beach beyond and staff was on hand for towels, food or cocktails if we wanted to order from the hotel (up the hill). Outside of the resort lies a small highway along the rugged coastline; perfect for long walks or a relaxing drive to town.

Room Tip: Ask to see pictures of your selection.

While this is the most expensive lodging my husband and I have ever stayed in, the Castle Hill Inn Newport experience was completely worth it due to the beautiful natural setting, comfortable room, and stellar customer service.

The picturesque setting of 40 private acres on a little peninsula is a treat to behold when arriving, but once there you have options to sort of spill out from the Inn to the patio, to the lawn and right down to the beach at the base of the property.

After arriving around 5 p.m on a Sunday, in just our first few hours we were able to walk down to the beach by the cottages, walk out on the rocky shore by the lighthouse, and have a drinks and eat dinner on the patio while watching the sun set. THEN, we capped the night off by walking back down to the beach where a bonfire had been laid, a telescope had been set up, and smores were facilitated!

We stayed in the Bridge Room" and there were fantastic views from all 3 of the windows, including the one over the bathroom tub (which was separate from the shower). The bed was comfortable, the room was quiet. The bathroom was spacious and just kind of beautiful. That the bottled water was free was a big bonus -- I can't imagine what it would have cost if we had to buy every bottle! :) The Wifi worked fine, and we had some nice speakers/music in our room. I would say the only drawback of the room was that there was a bit of a grout issue in the shower.

Breakfast (included) was good as well as dinner in the casual dining area. Dinner at the fine dining restaurant, however, was OUTSTANDING, as was the top notch service there.

Where the Inn staff went above and beyond was when they were anticipating our needs for our every little comfort. We had some issues trying to make a scheduled tour in Newport on our first morning, and the staff went out of their way to try to make things right even though the snafus were not anything to do with the hotel -- they made it their business to anticipate our troubles and then to take matters into their hands to resolve them.

So glad we choose CHI where the beautiful setting, the comfort, and the staff made for a unique Newport experience we couldn't have had anywhere else!

Room Tip: The Bridge Room was quiet and had water views from 3 windows.

This is perhaps the most beautiful location in Newport to dine or just relax on a lawn chair while taking in the water and boat views. Although we only dined here we did get to walk around and view the beautiful public areas of the hotel. We were lucky enough to pre book lunch here in August. We thought that the menu was very reasonably priced given the waterfront location in a prominent hotel. Food was excellent, and I recommend that everyone add this stop to their weekend in Newport. Just remember to make reservations or you'll be waiting for quite a while to get a prime table on the terrace.

We only had a chance to visit the grounds to watch a beautiful sunset over the water from the Adirondack chairs on the expansive lawn, but this is obviously a very special place to stay and also offers a three course fine dining experience for $73 per person. There is a bar area outdoors that offers more casual fare.

We were told to go here for drinks as it would be a wonderful place to sit out on some Adirondack chairs and enjoy the view. Unfortunately it was too windy to be able to sit out, so we went inside for our drinks which were quite good and were able to look out at the view. Hardly as nice as being outside, but given the conditions definitely the better choice. Would love to go back and be able to stay outside.
