“lovely location, delicious food, terrible housekeeping”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2013

we loved staying in the beach cottage this time. although a bit of a walk from the main house the location was great being right on the water and hearing the waves all night - nice! we had dinner one night with the wine pairing and breakfast delivered every morning of our stay (poached eggs with lobster hash - yummmmmm).

It would easily be 5 star but the housekeeping just stunk. we arrived to find the underbed drawers (the only place to leave folded clothing) jammed up at the top of the bed (hard to get to once we figured out they were there), a leftover piece of trash from the last guest stuck under the bed, not given extra shampoo etc, breakfast table was left littered with crumbs, grease etc. until we asked for it to be cleaned, and best of all - on our departure morning got to listen to the housekeeper in the next room talk on her cell phone about some court case she was involved in.

it sort of took away the ambience :(

Room Tip: beach cottages are great as are the harborside.

This our second time staying at the Castle Hill Inn in one of the beach cottages. It does not disappoint! The sweeping views of the ocean from our cottage were beautiful and relaxing. The breakfast and afternoon tea are delicious. Their attention to detail and helpful manner makes this place so enjoyable!

A perfect location for a quiet romantic getaway! Castle Hill Inn is a charming little place with a fantastic view of Narrangansett Bay in beautiful Newport, Rhode Island. Tucked away on Ocean Drive, the property is a five minute car ride to either touristy Thames Street or the Newport mansions. The rooms aren't overwhelmingly fancy, but appropriate enough, including a fireplace in each room. The staff was friendly, attentive, and very helpful. The food was good, with a free daily breakfast if you stay at the inn. Overall, everything collectively about our stay was very good. A bit high priced if you only consider the room, but what you are paying for is the charm and beauty of the place. I don't know of a better option in Newport, since there isn't a Four Seasons, nor a W hotel in the the area. Newport is a small wonderful little town with boutique type hotels, of which Castle Hill in my opinion, is the best of the bunch.

If you don't mind spending a little money than I would not miss this place!!! Amazing service, food, location.. It's paradise... Me and my 2 friends stayed in room 31 in the cottages. We had anything we needed within minutes and the staff was so sweet!! Breakfast is included, and not a little continental cereal/fruit event some hotels serve, it's a beautiful sit down Adair with all the linens and waiters you would hope for in such a wonderful setting.. We were so happy! Tyler and Thaddeus were so helpful. Thank you from your southern California guests.. We will be back and will refer you to our friends!!! We don't want to leave tomorrow! Lynn, sandy and Nicole

We came to Newport for a mid-week escape in August and loved the getaway! We stayed at the Jailhouse Inn on Thames, but our favorite part was the drinks/apps on the Adirondack chairs at CHI. The staff were friendly, attentive, and comforting. The ambiance on that lawn is a feeling like no-other. CHI would definitely be a great place to stay, but the price shows it. Even if you decide not to stay here, make it a priority to stop for a beer and cup of chowder during your visit.

Delighted that you enjoyed your time on The Lawn at Castle Hill. Please come back whenever you can....our winter room rates are also very reasonable and, although sitting on the Lawn might be a little chilly, we have four wood-burning fireplaces in the Mansion to keep you warm.

Bets regards,

Brian

We were at the Inn for a wedding and reception. It is a beautiful location and the staff was incredible. The spot is very romantic and I would have liked to have spent even more time walking the grounds.

Since it was a wedding, I'm not sure if the food we had is any part of their usual menu, but it was delicious, from start to finish.

Spent a wonderfully romantic weekend here with my boyfriend. We had one of the cottages on the bay and it rained all day the first day--which turned out fabulous! We sat on our porch, drinking wine, holding hands and watching it rain. Cleared up in time for dinner, which we had onsite in the restaurant. Views are fabulous here and the food was great! The next day was beautiful--we went into town and explored but couldn't wait to return to sit in adirondacks on the lawn, drinking wine and watching the sunset! I am looking forward to going back soon!
