Beautiful beautiful property.... We spent the w/e of the 4th of July at the Inn and enjoyed most of our stay. We had reserved a ocean view room and as lovely as it was it was also more noisy than I had expected with patrons having dinner at the outside patio restaurant area. I think if I was to choose again I would stay in another "quieter area" . We dined on the 7/5 and 7/6 at the outdoor mansion restaurant and the food was good but there were several minor glitches along the way. First, I think we waited waited and waited again for our appetizers and food BOTH nights. The management must have noticed on our first night because we were "treated" to beverages on the house. I must say that the "assistants" to the main waitresses/waiters need some additional training or help "finding and knowing" who ordered what. Several times we were interrupted regarding "did you order ....it just seems to me that they should be more "directed" as to who orders what. Our second night of service was even more difficult.. we waited waited and waited again to have our order taken and then received. Our waitress was delightful and continued to say that "your order should be right out" however we were eating "in the dark" by the time things arrived. I think I just expected more than that however at that time I did not mention that "something was wrong somewhere" Lawn service waitresses were awesome as well as the waitresses at breakfast however dinner fell short. I felt that for the price of our room and all there just was something missing. I understand that it was a "busy w/e" and all but wouldn't you expect that seeing your in the best spot of Newport.

Dear Winston87:

Thank you for staying with us over the Independence Day weekend. Our services were indeed stressed that weekend, and we were working out the kinks on our new Lawn restaurant. Rest assured we have taken note of your service experience and we are working hard to show marked improvement for you and our other guests.

Brian

It took us a long time looking, but we finally found something negative to say about this place. But first the 'good stuff": Beautiful Inn; Excellent food; Excellent service; Clean and spotless; Exceptional staff; Spectacular views from everywhere and impeccable grounds. We kept saying there must be something wrong with this place and we searched high and low. Then finally we found it! The American flag was tattered and needs to be changed. Given the location with possible high winds and tough weather conditions this is bound to happen. So we just wanted the management to know how wonderful everything was but maybe they might change the flag! And we also want the management to know they are doing a fantastic job and hope to return soon!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Inn, room 8. Gorgeous!!

I was delighted to learn that you enjoyed your visit to the Inn and, particularly the view from the Bridge Room. You had a bird's-eye view of our handcrafted yellow spruce flagpole, a replica of the mast and rigging used on a very famous class of sailboat made by Nathaniel Herreshoff of RI in the years before WWI. And, yes, the flag had become tattered this week, but I am happy to report that we replaced it yesterday at 2 p.m. Thanks for your kind comments, and I'll be sure to pass them on to my colleagues.

Sincerely,

Brian Young

We ate here our first night in Newport. Castle Hill Inn is about a ten minute drive from the main area, but worth the drive. We ate outside, on the patio, and the view was spectacular! The service was top notch. Our waitresses was very attentive. The food was good, but on the pricier side. We started with oysters, and they were very well done! We also had a scallop appetizer, which was also very good. We shared a lobster and a fish wrap. Yum! The menu is different inside. The wine was good, and they also had a wheat craft beer that was only available there, a Windward. We recommend this place for a good bite and a great view!

Unbelievable gorgeous setting and hotel, truly one of a kind.
Restaurant service was shockingly negligent and obtrusive --- waiters forgetting orders, disappearing for long stretches, jumping to clear to quickly, talking very loudly to each other and patrons. The food was good, but certainly not great.
Still, I would highly recommend this place because the location and the hotel are just that spectacular. Totally tranquil. Out of this world.

Lunch on the lawn with a group from China. Service and food couldn't have been better. It will be a memory of a life time for the group of friends visiting America for the first time. The view has to be one of the best anywhere and the staff was very friendly and attentive.

Just got back from an anniversary stay at the Castle Inn. It is beautiful. The staff is consistent with the Relais Chateaux brand, by that I mean, totally accommodating and gracious. The hotel is very well maintained, charming and has a true historic presence. Our anniversary meal was excellent, with a few exceptions, while it is stated that jackets are suggested. My husband and only one other gentlemen wore a jacket. Others were dressed in wrinkled khakis, short sleeved shirts, and polos. We expected an elegant evening. The meal was excellent with exception of my halibut, which was very dry.

We woke from a very poor sleep as our room was hardly air conditioned from a half installed portable air conditioner they rolled in and left half the window completely open to the outside. This air conditioner was loud ! The dining room has a barely sufficient air conditioner, remainder of all the public spaces in the Inn are not air conditioned at all. A small detail that they are not making known. We were there when the day time temperature was above 90 degrees.

Thank you for your comments - they are very much appreciated. Like many establishments affected by this current heat wave, our air conditioning systems are struggling with the 90+ degree heat, which is very very rare in our area (normally, we're a good 10-15 degrees cooler!). The Agassiz Mansion was built in 1875 as a summer residence to take advantage of the moderating offshore breezes and temperatures that can be found at our spot on the mouth of Narragansett Bay, but it needs a lot of help in this type of weather! We are upgrading the air conditioning for the room in which you stayed and the dining room in the Agassiz Mansion, so I feel confident that you will notice an improvement on future visits.

I have also passed on your comments regarding your dining experience to our Chef. Despite these issues, I was happy to learn that you enjoyed your interactions with our staff and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to the Inn.

Kind regards,

Brian Young

We have stayed in a beach cottage and beach house. The views were wonderful and spending time outdoors on the deck was a pleasure. However, during both trips we found the interior of the rooms to be worn out and bathroom cleanliness left much room for improvement.
