Following other Trip Advisor reviews, we changed our booking from a room at the Main House to a Beach Cottage at this hotel. Couldn´t have been better. Right on the beach, modern "beachy" decor. Extremely well equipped, including my favourite, Nespresso coffee machine! Highly recommended, but make sure you stay at a Beach Cottage. I found the main house rather gloomy and dark, very uncomfortable furniture in the lobby. Breakfast was very good, but personally, we prefer a self service buffet for breakfast.

My husband and I just returned from a four-night stay at the Castle Hill Inn to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We stayed in one of the "superior beach cottages." The view from our room was unbelievable--panoramic vistas of the water and shoreline, waves crashing on the rocks and seagulls galore. As other reviewers have said, you can sleep with the French doors open at night and listen to the roar of the waves. Just wonderful. The room is simple and comfortable. A very "beach cottage" look with hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings and a small kitchenette (microwave, coffeemaker, sink and mini fridge). The bathroom also has a fantastic view of the water (from the jacuzzi tub). We were, however, disappointed in the condition of the bathroom. Several floor tiles were cracked, and the floor looks "dingy" (not what you would expect when you are paying $359 per night). The bed is very soft, as are the pillows. This was not great for us, but we realize that everyone has their preferences; so I include this as information to let you know what you will find. Also as information, the Castle Hill WiFi connection is spotty, and we found ourselves having to frequently reconnect to it.

We ate breakfast in the lovely, waterfront dining room every morning and found it to be pretty good, but not exceptional. In four mornings, they never changed any item on the menu or added any specials. By the fourth morning, we were both kind of tired of the offerings. Why not add some croissants or interesting muffins? French toast or an omelet would have been nice, too. Just changing a few things up every couple of days would be helpful.

The afternoon tea is quite nice; however, it is held from 3:30-5:00. This is a little late in the afternoon to partake of all the lovely goodies they offer and still have any interest in dinner. Why not 2:30-4:00 so that it's not running right into cocktail hour?

We had a disappointing experience with one of the staff at the concierge desk when we stopped to ask for information about the mansion tours. This person did not know very much at all (thought this was their job) and actually gave us misinformation about the cost and which homes were open for tour. We would have thought they would provide one of the mansion brochures that we eventually got elsewhere and more specific information about price.

All in all, I would recommend Castle Hill (the superior beach cottages especially) for its unbelievable location and views.

This was my first time to Newport, Rhode Island and definitely not my last. This quaint town is full of charm, history, character and of course surrounded by water, lots of it!

I stayed at Castle Hill, this place is at the tip of Newport. The property is massive and completely surrounded by water, beach and rocks. Visually stimulating, well manicured and upon arrival you feel a sense of relaxation already setting in. You have many options for lodging, I stayed in the Superior Beach House, room 37 (corner unit - highly recommended). It included breakfast in the am. You are ocean front, have rocks and a beach in your back yard. Equipped with a fireplace, kitchen, very large bathroom, sitting area, walk in closet and a lanai with patio furniture (rocking chairs), and your own private entrance. The service was impeccable.

The room wasn't ready until around 3pm, so arriving early we had lunch in the Castle. When walking in to this mansion, the smell brings you back to an era you can only imagine (in a good way). Reserve the table by the window, the views are spectacular. The food was delicious we had the Oysters and a small salad, bread was fresh.

Beyond what I had time to do, there are so many options! I highly recommend this area, it's very romantic, it's also a great retreat if you just need to get away or if you are seeking a place for inspiration!

Room Tip: 37 C, Superior Beach House

I never write reviews but since i found out about Castle Hill on Trip Advisor i figured i would return the favor. Great place in a perfect setting. My wife and i looked for a weekend get away that would allow us to just chill out - Castle Hill was it. Arrived before our room was ready so we grab a drink at the bar and sat outside on the grass in a couple of the lawn chairs overlooking the bay - there must have been 30 people outside with us but there were so many chairs and it was so spread out we felt like we were alone. We stayed in a Harbor House Cottage - the room was nice (a little small) but perfect for the weekend getaway - We slept with the doors to patio wide open and slept great listing to the sounds of the water slapping against the rocks. We decided to have Diner in the room was was on time and to expectation. We had breakfast in the Inn was also was served on time and to expectation. The staff was helpful and friendly - we have no complaints. Only recommendation would be for an upgrade to the in room amens - No Video on Demand or Wifi (but wasn't necessary to relax).

We spent my spouse's birthday at a Castle Hill Inn beach house, and it was a wonderful experience. The beach house was simply superb: fantastically comfortable beds, superb bath rooms with jacuzzi and shower, the well appointed kitchenette, the fireplace, etc., all great, very thoughtful and very romantic amenities. And of course, the unmatched view of the sea. My only concerns were the fact that the breakfast was delivered 30 minutes late, and a somewhat overly familiar front desk experience...and the cost--very expensive, even in the off season. If one doesn't care about price, this is a prime, choice destination.

Room Tip: Corner beach house, No. 37

The rooms are relaxing and all of them have fabulous views. It's near the beaches and a wonderful ocean drive. The people are extreamly accomodating and will do everything they can to give you what you need to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The food is incredible! The Inn has a great history that you can read on-line and the rooms have different books in them on the Inn and Newport, RI. Most picture perfect place I've ever been to.

Recently my wife and I spent a mid-week overnight stay here, dining with two other couples on Thursday night and staying over. And while we live some 30 minutes away it felt like we were worlds away from the hustle and bustle of real life. The staff is always warm and accommodating, the food always fresh and delicious. It is nice to get away and dine in a restaurant where the men where jackets. Not stuffy, but classy. It just feels good.
