“In the center of it all”
Reviewed April 14, 2005

My husband and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Admiral Fitzroy Inn and we had a wonderful stay. The Inn is situated on Thames Street, which is truly the heart of Newport. Since we were there in the off-seaseon, it was quiet, but I'm not sure if noise would be an issue in the summertime. The Inn is adorably decorated with stenciling on the walls and the Innkeeper keeps a constant supply of freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies in the lobby. Our room was the least expensive because it contained a queen-sized bed. To our surprise, we had a suite, with a living room and separate bedroom. The location is perfect, being only a short walk to the wharf and surrounded by a ton of restaurants and quaint shops. The cliff walk is probably about a 15 minute walk away, if you choose to do so. The breakfast was good; options included bagels, English muffins, hot and cold cereals, muffins, fresh fruit, hard-boiled eggs, hams, and assorted cheeses. If you're looking for an Inn with a central location, affordable price, and old-fashioned charm, then the Admiral Fitzroy is for you.

We stayed here last October and are going back this year. This is an old house, but the rooms are large, immaculate, and nicely decorated. We only used the car once in our two night stay, and that was to drive to one of the mansions. There are many restaurants, taverns, and sailing within walking distance. There is free off street parking behind the inn, and that is important in an old town with narrow streets in like Newport. The breakfast area is bright and pleasant with a tasty continental breakfast. The staff of course was friendly or why would we be going back.

This former convent is more of a small hotel than an inn. Each room is beautifully decorated ad has private baths in each room plus cable tv and phones.Despite being in the "heart" of everything, the Inn is a remarkably quiet retreat.Park your car and walk to everything!Reasonably priced,I highly reccommend the Fitz.
