Love walking around going in and out of all the stores. Did a little shopping. Especially loved the fudge store kilwin's.

“Great street to stay on”

Beautiful views and fun shopping. Great places to eat and snack as well. Many historic buildings still have shops in them. We found some good bargains.

“Crowded on the weekends, much calmer weekdays.”
Reviewed September 18, 2013

Abundance of stores and restaurants ( some nice some not so nice). Really something for everyone's budget.
Lots of side walk benches for the husbands to relax on while purchases are being made.
Due to non smoking restaurants often it was difficult to pass some establishments and passerbyers a had to deal with clouds of smoke!

“Tourist shops, rentals and restaurants.”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

Having born in London to me it is always TEMS St. as in the name of the river that it was presumably named after, however to the locals it is pronounced phonetically with the TH and the A. It is a long crowded tourist trap of bars, restaurants, trinket shops and the like. Lacks the attraction of the architecture to be found elsewhere in Newport

“Lot of fun, lots to do (and eat!)”
Reviewed September 11, 2013

Thames Street is a great place to stroll along in Newport and catch many of the flavors of the town. Basically, it is a tourist-oriented road that is lined with a mixture of souvenir shops, taverns, restaurants, and other merchandising establishments. Note, it is NOT a pedestrian-only street, so watch yourself crossing and when moving to the other side of the road. Also, as many people have already noted, this street offers almost NO parkig, unless you get there around 7 AM, so be prepared to either pay $15-20 for an all-day lot, or to park way up the hill. If you don't mind walking, there are merchants malls at the top of the hill (nearby the Tennis Hall of Fame) where you can park for free.

I loved this place, and wold gladly return for more sightseeing!
