Owner description: Commissioned by Nevada silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs in 1899, architect Stanford White modeled Rosecliff after the Grand Trianon, the garden retreat of French kings at Versailles. After the house was completed in 1902, at a reported cost of $2.5 million, Mrs. Oelrichs hosted fabulous entertainments here, including a fairy tale dinner and a party featuring famed magician Harry Houdini.

Audio tour was very informative. I felt like I was slumming it compared to the excess of the Breakers. I'm sure the rich an powerful might have made those same comparisons. You do have to keep up with the Vanderbilts.

Rosecliff was our second stop on Ten Mile Drive. After the over-the-top opulence of The Breakers, it was refreshing to see something a tiny bit more livable - even though the 2,000 sq ft ballroom is larger than the house we live in! The entertaining spaces downstairs were vast and well-decorated. The self-guided audio tour offered lots of facts from several viewpoints so it was quite interesting. The living spaces upstairs were interesting, especially the displays of clothing and furniture. I got a sense of what it was like to live in a grand house like Rosecliff. We enjoyed our tour of the house and grounds.

This was an extraordinary place to visit. The ball room was so lavish and exquisite I could believe my eyes. The grounds were stunning and well maintained. A must visit on your trip to Newport!

Some of the mansions on Bellevue Ave are so opulent that they defy humans inhabiting them. They are showplaces, palaces that are mostly eye candy. Rosecliff is a home that looks like the occupants could easily enjoy living in the place. The history of the occupants is interesting as well. Overall: the home is elegant without being so over the top that it looks like only royalty would be allowed to enter it.

This was a great mansion tour. Overall, it was a great tour and a beautiful house. The items they had on display such as all of the clothing was great. I got a sense of what they wore while they lived in the home.
