Owner description: Commissioned by Nevada silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs in 1899, architect Stanford White modeled Rosecliff after the Grand Trianon, the garden retreat of French kings at Versailles. After the house was completed in 1902, at a reported cost of $2.5 million, Mrs. Oelrichs hosted fabulous entertainments here, including a fairy tale dinner and a party featuring famed magician Harry Houdini.

Touring the mansions in Newport was an awesome experience. The self-guided audio tours of the house gave lots of information and helped you understand what life was like in the heyday of operation. I would recommend this house if you have the time to see it.

This mansion was the third one we visited in Newport. The Stamford White design was interesting, as was the history of the house. While the home has been beautifully restored, most of the original furnishings and decorations are no longer part of the house, as it went through several owners and years of damage and neglect. The last owners gratiously donated the home to the Preservation Society, but the original furnishings were long gone.

The home has an audit tour that works well and is very informative.

This mansion has such an interesting history and backstory - probably moreso than any of the others. Make sure to listen to a few of the additional options on your headset. You will be glad you did. Also, the view out back is OUTSTANDING. Take a few minutes to bask in it!!

I like the tour to Rosecliff yesterday. The mansion has its unique character inside. Even though, it is not as grant as the Breakers, you can smell something different and romantic when you steps
around this building. I like the paitings on the wall, too. Actually, every painting tells you a story about it.

I really enjoyed touring this mansion. If you're sight seeing in Newport I wouldn't pass this one up.
