Owner description: Commissioned by Nevada silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs in 1899, architect Stanford White modeled Rosecliff after the Grand Trianon, the garden retreat of French kings at Versailles. After the house was completed in 1902, at a reported cost of $2.5 million, Mrs. Oelrichs hosted fabulous entertainments here, including a fairy tale dinner and a party featuring famed magician Harry Houdini.

“Most beautiful”

The most beautiful and livable of the big houses, Gatsby was filmed here because of it's beautiful grounds, self guiding audio tour makes it easy to envision the past life style of its builders.

“Most liveable of the big ones”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2012

My wife and I both decided that this is the brightest - and most liveable - of the biggest mansions. A good audio tour makes it very interesting as well.

“Christmas party”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2012

You can visit Rosecliff for the Christmas party where you attend as a "guest" and the staff is in period dress and role of the family. It is a lot of fun.

Another breath-taking visit into the Gilded Age of America. Just fabulous to view the property and learn of the history. Great grounds as well. Excellent gift shop.

“The rich get richer showing the poor their homes”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2012

An overpriced walking effort through an opulent home that is considerably under furnished. Great yards and ocean view, but save your $29 for lobster. Why make the rich richer to just see their homes. Never again.
