I happened upon this park late in the day. While walking I found myself on a path along the water on the west or back side of the fort. Great view of the bridge, sailboats passing by. The sun was setting and it was magical! So beautiful!

After three cloudy days in Newport my 26 year old daughter and I were struggling to find things to do and decided to go to Fort Adams. We took the guided tour ($12 vs $6 for the self guided) and were amazed that it was so interesting and fun. Our tour guide Steve was knowledgeable and interesting and funny. The guided tour includes a lot that is not accessible on the self guided tour, including the tunnels that extend out from the fort toward the harbor. Even if you're not a military or history buff, it's an interesting hour and a half, with spectacular views of Newport harbor and Narragansett bay.

We went there specifically for the quite beach we heard about....as we we touring all morning we stopped at a restroom at top of the hill to put on our swimsuits before going down to the beach and, well, we wish we didn't. There was another changing area down by the beach, where we changed afterwards, that was a bit better, Ancient but better. The beach was small, really small.
My kids didn't appreciate it really, it was for much younger kids. nice views though!
We didn't tour the fort area. No place that I could see that had refreshments or anything. There are plenty of other beaches in the areas - no of them too big tough, but nicer!

We had a great tour guide who knew lots of history and fun facts about the fort. We did the tunnels and that was an experience all of its own. I feel like people over look this amazing piece if history. The tour is a must do as you get to see and do way more on the property and its only 12 per adult.
