After three cloudy days in Newport my 26 year old daughter and I were struggling to find things to do and decided to go to Fort Adams. We took the guided tour ($12 vs $6 for the self guided) and were amazed that it was so interesting and fun. Our tour guide Steve was knowledgeable and interesting and funny. The guided tour includes a lot that is not accessible on the self guided tour, including the tunnels that extend out from the fort toward the harbor. Even if you're not a military or history buff, it's an interesting hour and a half, with spectacular views of Newport harbor and Narragansett bay.
