“Significant to defense of New England”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2013

The fort was built to protect the New England coast. There is a live tour available of the fort facilities. It is a must for history buffs of colonial naval/military defense operations. There are facilities on the grounds available for overnight rental that provide access to the water.

“Fascinating, can't stop talking about it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2013

We have been traveling to Newport for almost 30 years and thought we had done all the attractions. This year, we had our two grand kids with us (9 & 11) and needed something to do outdoors. We stopped at the Visitors Center and got quite an education into what to do in Newport 30 years later. The assistant gave us many options geared to our needs. She explained each activity and gave us prices, schedules & printed material to make our decisions easier. We decided on the tour of Fort Adams. We chose the guided tour as it included the underground tunnels. We used a senior discount and the total for the four of us was $28. Our guide was outstanding and provided us with interesting history and facts regarding the fort. The engineering was fascinating and goes back to Napolean. There is a lot of walking and some of it is a bit hard on seniors but worth each step. The views are outstanding, bring a lunch, a kite, a bike, take a boat ride (shuttle stop) & enjoy the campus!

Great tour plus we loved walking along the pier and checking out all the sailboats. Quiet and beautiful.

“Highly recommended!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 7, 2013

This is one of my favorite places to be once a year. They have a great Jazz Festival here for a weekend each year that makes you want to go back for more each time. Not only do they have soothing and brilliant jazz playing, but everyone is lounging around in their lawn chairs or blankets, sipping on a glass of wine, enjoying life. They also have little vendors along the coastline in case you want a massage or to pick up a piece of artwork while you enjoy the event. Try it fr yourself!

“Great tour”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 6, 2013

Some forts have more history and/or activities associated with them, which is why I give this one a four, but we arrived early and wound up the only ones on our tour, and it was excellent! The fort is extremely complex and it is the very complexity that makes the tour so fascinating.
