Owner description: A scenic 3.5 mile walkway that borders the back lawn of The Breakers and many other Newport mansions.

The Cliff Walk was a real highlight of our stay in Newport. We were fortunate with the weather - there wasn't a cloud in the sky and this made photo opportunities plentiful. The sun was shimmering off the sea and it was so peaceful. As for the mansions - well, what can you say, they are just out of this world. To think these are/were holiday homes in most cases, used for a few weeks a year is just staggering. The only word of caution I would say is although it is only 3.5 miles long the last third or so of the walk is quite craggy. Very different to the paved walkways at the outset, so make sure you wear trainers as a minimum. Took 2.5 hours including short stops for photos etc.

Awesome walk - watch out for the waves if the tide is in! Fantastic mansions on the sea front. Breakers is awesome and much better to view from here than the road

Trail of 3.5 miles a long the beach of Newport. Part of the trail is paved, easy trail suit for pram.
My suggestion is to start from the north (117 Memorial Blvd). near by there is free parking lot, GPS coordinates are: 41.487503, -71.293865 , walk distance of 0.3 mile from the north starting point.
While walking (north to south) Nice view to the left: shoreline ,the ocean and rocks goes down to the water, waves break on the rocks, fresh air.
To the right there are houses , some of them (mainly at the beginning) are part of Newport Mansions the other are private properties close to the public. You can not finish the walking any place you want only on a few “exit points” where there is road. I notice only one temporary restroom. The trail is mark by numbers starting from 1 I reach 42, may be there is more.
At some point of the walk , about two thirds of the trail it become challenge to walk. You will walk on rocks near to the sea, Caves and probably get a little wet. For this part you need good shoes.

So glad we decided to do the cliff walk. It was a beautiful, sunny day on October 21. Lots of walkers and joggers on cliff walk. The walk is very easy for about the first 2 miles then it gets a little rocky. Tons of photo opportunities along the way. Plus, you get a close up of some of the mansions along the way. High recommend the cliff walk.

Cliff Walk is an amazing visual expereince. Well maintained, the ocean is on one side and the beautiful manisions of Newport on the other. Very calm and serene. Don't miss walking at least a portion of this.
