My husband and I recently stayed at the Mill Street Inn to celebrate our one year anniversay. Wow! What a wonderful way to celebrate this special occasion. From the moment we walked through the doors I knew this was not your ordinary hotel, it was something very special. The atmosphere, decor and historical beauty was very serene and classy. The gentleman at the front desk was so welcoming and accomodating. He gave us some great restaurant suggestions and even made our dinner reservation for us. He also offered to help us with our luggage.
When we entered our room, it took my breath away. It was absolutely beautiful. It was such a relaxing atmosphere, the exposed brick in the room added to the charm and the beautiful orchid plants added to the peacefulness. The room was absolutely perfect ,it was clean, tidy and immaculate. The bed was the most comfortable bed I had ever slept in, I wanted to take it home! We had the most wonderful patio that we took full advantage of by sitting out and enjoying the fresh air and views of Newport. The roof top deck with continental breakfast was perfect with amazing views. The location of the hotel was fantastic. It is off of the main road but within walking distance of all the wonderful restaurants and sights of downtown Newport. I highly recommend the Mill Street Inn. It is a great value! We have stayed at other hotels in downtown Newport and nothing compares to the Mill Street Inn. I am so happy that we found this great treasure. We could not have asked for a better anniversary weekend. We can't wait to go back to celebrate our second year anniversary! I think we are going to make this a tradition!

We stayed at the Mill Street Inn this past weekend for the Newport Folk Festival and had a very nice experience. After a very rough previous night at a Holiday Inn on the drive to Newport, we arrived to a very welcoming atmosphere at the Mill Street Inn. The front desk receptionist was the only guy on staff that day, helping us check-in, carry our luggage and brought us a pack-and-play for our baby. Moments after we called for a wine opener, he shows to our door with opener and glasses. We joked about he probably makes the coffee and cleans the toilets too, and gave a modest tip. A few moments later, he knocked on our door with a plate of delicious strawberries and grapes. These little things make a huge difference in a hotel experience.

Our room was a 2 floor "townhouse" with the master bed upstairs and a balcony overlooking the harbor (at a distance). It was great to unwind after the day on the patio, watching the sunset. The room itself was quite nice with a modern vibe, though it could use a paint job as there were some scuffs on the walls. Having a mini-fridge with a sink in the living room area was a huge plus traveling with an infant. The location of the hotel couldn't be better. It sits a little up the hill from the wharfs, not even a 5 minute walk from all the action. The hotel is nestled amongst 18th century colonial homes and the main church in a very charming part of town. We were able to walk everyplace, and even walked with the baby to the water taxi to go to the folk festival. The hotel has underground parking which is huge considering the difficult on-street parking situation in Newport. It was an easy drive to the Newport Mansions when we took the tours.

Overall, we had a very nice experience at the hotel. The only possible complaint is that it is not a cheap hotel, I believe we paid a little over $600 for the weekend night and $350 for the weekday night. And while there were some small cosmetic things that could be changed - it was the location and the amazing staff that made our stay special. I wish all hotels cared as much for their guests as this one...

It was our first trip to Newport. After the reviews we decided to try the Mill St Inn. The lobby was very artsy and we thought it would be perfect. We were assigned room 214. Upon entering the room we noticed a cornice molding piece stuck in the corner on the floor, the carpet in the 'sitting room' torn, and the sauder cabinet kitchen area had a haier refridgerator with a broken freezer door. The shower caulk needed attention and all of the door hinges had noticeable dust bunnies. The master bed was extremely comfortable and the bedding and towels were high quality..not everything was bad.

Our room was promoted as being larger with a deck...it sounded good...the deck was in disrepair and needed to be sanded, peeling paint everywhere and the deck over looked a parking and trash area, we never used the deck.

Breakfast was served on the roof. This area was beautiful with a great view...we tried to have an evening bottle of wine up here but they lock the door at night. Now room 214 and 215 are directly under the roof deck adjacent to the access stairs...this is a tremendous disadvantage as they start setting up the breakfast area by 6:30 AM. It gets VERY NOISY!! Needless to say we were abruptly awaken every morning to the sound of doors closing and chairs being slid across decking.

Our room was $398 a night!!!!!!!!!I know it is NEWPORTand we are in SEASON but for those prices these issues should not have been ignored. They were at full occupancy and seem to be all season long, I'm sure partly due to trip advisor as this is the forum we always refer to before booking...we were sadly disappointed! Save your money and stay somewhere else. The positives did not outweigh the negatives in this case....sorry.

Internet access was sketchy at best. This became an issue as we had to find a starbucks to check our business accounts....

Our weekend room (townhouse suite) was fantastic with a small private outdoor sitting deck from which we could see the harbor. Nice continental breakfast (included) was served outside on the roof deck. Very cool shower setup. Extremely comfortable bed. If you like smaller hotels with more personal service, this is the place. We find B&B's quaint but often "musty" and dated, while big hotels are rambling impersonal places. This place was ideal. And the people were great Doug and Dave were very helpful with the little things that make a big difference in the enjoyment of a stay. Siren (her real name) was especially helpful with restaurant choices and cajoled us into trying a few local places we ended up loving. She even suggested a better way for my wife to go down stairs with a recently torn meniscus. Unlike her mythological namesake who lured sailors to their doom, she'll be drawing us back soon for another enjoyable romantic getaway.

We loved our stay. Wonderful and informative staff, the breakfasts were GREAT - on the rooftop the sun shining. My husband and I would go back in a minute - being at Mill Street was a real vacation !! Thank you and we enjoyed the freshly baked cookies.

We just spent three nights at the Mill Street Inn from 4th July for a mini-honeymoon before our main one later in the year. We had a great time in Newport and thought the Mill Street Inn was fantastic.

Our room was immaculate - like a New York City apartment with exposed brick and clean lines. We loved all aspects of our room on two levels - the deck was great and private, the bathroom and shower wonderful. The bed was a bit too soft for me but my new wife described it as like sleeping on a cloud.

Siren at the front desk helped us with dinner recommendations and reservations plus booked us a great helicopter tour over Newport and the mansions.

The hotel is in a great location – just a few minutes walk to the wharfs shops, bars and restaurants.

Great stay and would highly recommend.

I just want to say to anyone who is reading these. The Mill Street Inn is so beautiful. It's worth every penny. My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary and The Mill Street Inn made it a very memorable stay for us. The decor was modern, great color sceme, and great ammentities. We loved the private patio and the roof top deck. The breakfast was very good. I liked the fact that there was granola and fresh fruit and yogurt. I am really happy to see that there was parking on site. You don't get that very often in Newport. the staff was very helpfull and friendly. They even offered to help us with our luggage. We can't wait to go back there again. I have to say, I am in the hotel industry and found The Mill Street Inn a very nice place to stay for your money. We also liked that we could walk to town and great places to eat. Thank you Mill Street Inn for a memorable stay. We will see you soon.
