“Just be aware - its around a tough neighborhood”
Reviewed July 11, 2006

My son and I stayed at the Doubletree for one night. The hotel itself is fine. The rooms are large and the bathroom has a lot of room AND counter space. Free breakfast includes a $10 voucher to Au Bau Pain located in the hotel. The hotel also offers quite a few amenities on the 2nd floor - excercise room, game room, washer/dryer, and large well-decorated living-room style room. This would be very nice for parents that had children in the game room. The hotel itself is art deco on the outside.

The only negative aspect of this hotel is location. The hotel is sandwiched on a very tight street surrounded by Buffalo General and Roswell Cancer Institute. Of course this would be convenient if the reason for your stay. However, we were looking to walk around and take a stroll to dinner and I did not feel comfortable doing that. I would also ask for a room facing the front. With buildings on both sides - rooms with a view are limited.

I read the reviews on this site and expected an above average stay. The service and staff were exceptional. The room I was given was not.

I stayed from Monday Jan 30 through Friday Feb 3, 2006 at the Doubletree. My room had a very old bed, little to no mattress padding, and a bedspread that dated back to the '70s. If anyone has read my reviews of other hotels across the U.S. this is my #1 pet peeve. Many hotels are upgrading their bedding. Others let it go. This is unacceptable. You are on the road, working a great deal, and the bed is the most important thing in the room. Please do not give me a bed that the Salvation Army would not accept as a charitable donation. Such was the case here. Nasty old bed, bedspread that I used a hanger to remove from the bed each night.

To make matters worse, the only other pleasantry I seek in a hotel is the television for some mindless viewing after a grueling day. My TV's picture was fine, but the sound was marred by interference and static at any volume. It was so annoying I turned off the tube in disgust most nights.

On the plus side, the room was big and clean. The fridge was appreciated and the staff was friendly and professional. An even bigger plus side was the fact that the Doubletree is within walking distance of the Anchor Bar, the Vatican of chicken wings. On the other hand, there is NOTHING else around the hotel other than a hospital.

In sum, I would probably stay at the Doubletree again solely for the wings. Absent the Anchor Bar, I would definitely choose the Hyatt Regency over the Doubletree, hands down.

This is a fantastic hotel. We had one of the larger rooms with a fabulous comfy king bed. Huge Bathroom which was very clean and new looking. Full size refrigerator in great shape and microwave too. The room was very quiet, had no trouble sleeping. The car service drove us to the transit and picked us up from it and were super nice about it, even made a quick pit stop for us. Check in was great with friendly staff. Service at Au Bon Pain was great too, food (breakfast) from here was really good too. This is great hotel, I would highly recommend to anyone. Wish we had more opportunities to travel to Buffalo just to be able to stay in this hotel!!!!!

There are few decent hotel choices in downtown Buffalo. The Hampton Inn and Suites is pretty good but frequently booked so this trip to Buffalo I stayed at the Doubletree. The hotel is located across from Buffalo General Hospital, near Allen Street and a 5 minute walk from the light rail train that goes along Main Street. The Doubletree was pretty good. Check in and out were a breeze. The rooms are large and well kept. The hotel's restaurant is actually an Au Bon Pain which is fine for a quick bite to eat. I did order room service once and it was atrocious. It took an hour to arrive and the food was horrible. As long as you stay away from room service the Doubletree is a very good option for Downtown Buffalo.

Great room, friendly and efficient staff and good facilities. We stayed here for 2 nights whilst visiting the area (convenient for Niagara). We thought it was great. Would certainly stay again!

Downtown Buffalo is dead after 5 pm every day except for a 2 block area on Main Street where the Theatres are located. There are many good shows and restaurants within 5 miles of downtown.

The Marriott at 125 High Street is a great place to stay. It is in the Hospital area and 5 minutes from downtown They have a car service to take you anywhere and pick you up within a 5 mile radius. The hotel has an apartment size refrigerator and microwave in addition to the coffee maker. There are free computers in the business area and High Speed internet there also. The staff is very good and I would highly recommend it.

I made a reservation through Priceline, which finally led to this hotel in Downtown Buffalo. Rooms are big and comfortable with refridgerator and microwave. Additionally they offered free internet access, and for pleasure a Sony playstation (which I did not use). Reception was staffed 24 hours, thus my early morning check-out took me only 40 seconds. In regard to the price paid, I was really satisfied with this hotel.
