Someone has put some money into this downtown Buffalo hotel, and the improvements are noticable, but this Hyatt has a ways to go. Yes, renovations are appearant in the lobby and in the rooms, but the attention to detail, the remaining wear and tear, and poor level of service greatly outweighs the positives.
The rate was competitive, and the hotel is one of the few in downtown Buffalo that accepts pets at a reasonable fee. We used Hyatt's online pre-check-in, and as a result, were able to avoid the very long check-in line when we arrived. Valet parking is $23 per evening, and that service was actually the best we received during our whole stay.
Our room was to include a roll-away bed - it wasn't in the room on arrival, and despite a specific follow-up call to request it from the front desk, the roll-away never actually showed up in our room!
We thought we were using a fully-functioning refridgerator - it had no controls, so we had to assume it would be safe to put our perishables inside. Unfortunately, we later discovered it wasn't working at all.
The room itself was renovated - new bathroom, carpet, bedding (although the bed was too soft), carpet, furniture, television, etc. But, there were lots of small but quite noticable things still looking very worn and not nice in the room - scratched, marred cabinets, beat-up old door with poorly functioning locks, light switch face plates with missing screws, a bad cold draft along the floor, etc.
Unfortunately, upon check-out, no one on the front-desk staff cared enough to ask us about these poor experiences ... until, as mentioned before, the valet asked! He couldn't really do anything, so we didn't bother to clue him in.
Ultimately, if there's not a pet in your traveling party, there are several better options for mid-level accommodations in downtown Buffalo. In the meantime, I hope the Hyatt folks start to pay more attention to this property - further investment, combined with continued improvement in attention-to-detail and service, is desparately needed.
