Hyatt Regency Buffalo
Ranked #8 of 25 Hotels in Buffalo
Reviewed November 2, 2013

Stayed for a conference as it was adjoining the Conference Centre.

First stay at a Hyatt and left a good impression. Warm welcome when we booked in and although the room was not ready we were looked after.

Had lunch in the Atrium restaurant and it was a nice light meal.

The rooms were large and comfortable and not a lot of noise. Bed was comfortable enough and we maintained.

The only observation is that valet parking is expensive when they are parking your car in an open parking lot opposite the hotel. No security apparent and there is an undercover garage also opposite.

I have no idea why this is not ranked the highest in Buffalo. I travel there periodically and this is by far and away, the best experience. Beautiful rooms and the staff is awesome. Courteous, friendly and gave all the right advice. The guy who checked me, Jimmie, has worked there for ten plus years and that was the type of feel - came across as management was committed to its people and those were people were definitely committed to making our stay great.

Dollar for dollar, this place stands alone.

Room Tip: Just trust the staff - tell them what you want, and they will do whatever is possible to make it hap...

We recently stayed there for a conference held at the conference center. The ability to stay indoors to walk between buildings is helpful on the surface. However, we eventually figured out to cross the street and save a lot of walking. The room was nice. It's a room and nothing more. Someone should explain to them their plumbing (at least in our room) was not connected right. The vents were not connected. When you flush the toilet it bubbles up before flushing (that is a treat). The sink gurgled for 10 minutes after I washed my hands. In addition to those delightful noises, the room creaks in the wind. You can hear the building shift ALL NIGHT LONG!!! Finding wind in Buffalo is like trying to find night time. It's not hard.

The bar in the lobby was nice, convenient but as expensive as you would expect. Didn't try the restaurant so I have nothing to pass on.

The front desk staff was very helpful and very pleasant. They were hit with the conference attendees and a party checking in at the same time so they made the most of it and did well. The bell hops were great. Good restaurant suggestions. Fast service. A special thanks (I forgot his name) to the tall bell hop. My back went out carrying luggage down. I was in a lot of pain and asked for aspirin. He ran and got it for me with a bottle of water. Thank you.

Overall it is a convenient and clean hotel for a conference. There is nothing else to do around there. Anything worthwhile is a car ride away. or a family travelling you are best advised to stay away. Find a more convenient location with free parking. Not that the $20 per night to park is a deal breaker but when you step out on the street and realize there is not much around, there are some shady characters on the street at night, you are simply better off picking somewhere else for the trip. For a conference, not much of a problem.

I think the hotel was average. The staff was okay nothing to praise. I ate at the atrium cafe and the burger was nothing to be excited about. I came to the hotel based on the reviews and probaly would have stayed at another hotel. It's an ok hotel but there's nothing that stands out like the customer service or even the amenities or rooms

Maybe spoiled with our local Hyatt but this one was not close. Solid 3 star experience. Parking setup was not great. Valet or look after yourself. Lobby area was small...tiny bar, never a seat available. Corridors to rooms were inauspicious. Room was pleasant but not particularly cozy. Limited options to control room heating. Windy night on my last night. The whole hotel was creaking. Jimmy at the front desk was a gentleman. Location seemed to be ok but in 3 nights there I wasn't sure if I was in the center of Buffalo or in some deserted outskirt. Oddly quiet town. Had a great meal in EB Greens on ground floor and the bar across the street was decent (the Century - I think).

We stayed at the Hyatt during a EMS convention. The hotel is connected to the Convention Center by an enclosed walkway which was nice because it was cold. However, for the price of the room, the only amenities we got was TV and the swimming pool. We had internet, but had to pay $29.95 for three days of internet, there was no continental breakfast and the restaurant in the hotel was very pricey. There wasn't anything to see within walking distance of the hotel, except a lot of construction and abandoned buildings. The hotel does have Valet Parking for $20.00 a day, but it's offsite parking. With all the walking we did around the hotel in order to find restaurants to have supper at, we never found our vehicle. However, the Valet was very kind and prompt when we needed our vehicle. The staff was helpful and kind. As for the swimming pool, we used it one night, I couldn't use it during the day while my partner was at the conference because the pool rules state that there should be two people and one of them should remain out of the pool.

We felt for the price of the room, we should have at least gotten free internet or continental breakfasts. The room was nice and comfortable, had a coffee maker, small fridge and a flat screen tv. The bed was comfortable and room was well kept. However, when I opened the curtains the windows were dirty and covered in cobwebs.

Room Tip: Tell them you want one near the top of the hotel and facing the river.

Very well located, lots of restaurants, theater, bus stop points, etc., are a few blocks away. The staff, especially the front desk were attentive, polite and helpful. With a beautiful smile give us all the information and guidance that we requested. The shuttle service is impeccable.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the electrical tower.
