A friend recommended Betty's in downtown Buffalo for a special breakfast treat, and after my experience there this weekend, I couldn't be more pleased to write this review. Two of us decided to meet for breakfast and arrived at Betty's around 10:30am. We were seated immediately by a friendly hostess in the cozy side room that was fairly full. The menu is not very extensive, but it changes all the time and is full of homemade dishes that you don't see everywhere. I took advantage of this by ordering a blueberry french toast casserole (blueberry french toast layered with sweet cream cheese and almonds, topped with a streusel topping and baked to a gooey perfection) and a side of homefries (crisped up in a blend of spices with my addition of hot sauce). A big slice of casserole towered over the plate, which was garnished with a generous side of fresh fruit. The service was great - our waitress knew it was our first time there, so she made some recommendations to us and, after ordering, brought our food quickly. She was friendly and attentive, but not TOO attentive. We never felt our conversation was being interrupted by her continued check-ins - she filled our coffee and tea as it got low, and otherwise checked in on us the perfect amount so we felt comfortable but not rushed. By the end of our meal, the waiting area had filled with guests waiting to be sat, but again our server never made us feel rushed to leave. We were very pleased with the meal in general - the portions were great, the price was reasonable, and the atmosphere was the perfect complement to a sunny weekend. I am excited to go back and see the new menu items Betty's serves up for "blunch."
