“Little Italy”
Review of North Buffalo

Part of this neighborhood has become known as "Little Italy". On Hertel Avenue you will find several small food stores, restaurants, gift shops and boutiques, all within a few short blocks from Delaware Ave. which also has many well known businesses. The Buffalo Zoo is located just minutes away from Hertel Ave. There are numerous older, larger homes (or mansions) that are in the area of Nottingham Terrace and Middlesex Ave. You will also find the Buffalo Museum Of Science and the Albright Knox Art Gallery located on the famous Elmwood Ave. nearby. The Buffalo New York State College campus is across the street from the Art Gallery. As you can see, there are many fun places to visit in this neck of town!

North Buffalo's Hertel Avenue runs five stop-lighted miles from the Niagara River to Main Street and it's a world tour without customs stops or GPS, numerous fine antique shops, various neighborhoods, a movie theater (the North Park) of which they don't make any more and even, for the wicked, a "smoke shop"... it's a little like the "South Pacific" about the gal who's "narrow as an arrow, but broad where a broad should be broad..." however, it largely shuts down for the mid-July Italian Festival, a joy for many, a nuisance for others including us...

Hertel Avenue, between Delaware Ave and Starin Ave has become the new destination for small local shops, nice corner deli's, coffee shops, antique stores and other great restaurants and bars. Hertel ave has always been a place to congregate, but since the rents on Elmwood Ave in teh Elmwood Village skyrocketed, Hertel has become the go-to destination for those fleeing the high rents. Take a trip down Hertel some day and enjoy the Spot Coffee, Bob and John's La Hacienda, The North Park Theater, Joe's Deli and a ton of shopping...

North Buffalo is a great destination, especially the Hertel Strip. It's packed with great antique stores, bookstores, restaurants of all price ranges, and ethnic stores. The crown jewel of the neighborhood is the North Park Theater, a historic theater that has first-run movies while still retaining its charm. Within a short distance are two major parks, a zoo, a shopping strip with department stores, Frank Lloyd Wright's Darwin Martin House, and more top-notch pizza joints than you could shake a stick at. It's a great place to spend a day or two while in Buffalo and not go broke.

Nearby the popular shopping destination Elmwood Village in Buffalo is Hertel Avenue. There's tons of specialty shops, like room & baby room (home decor/gifts), Blue Hill Blue Kitchen, trendy women's boutiques such as Modern Nostalgia and Chic & Sweet, and antique shops. The North Park movie theatre is a one of a kind place to catch an indie film. There's great restaurants, especially if you're looking for Italian! Also new to the area is Mes Que, a soccer bar/restaurant with a fantastic beer and wine menu and excellent food!
