What a great tour of the Buffalo River and a great presentation of the history how the Buffalo River contributed the Buffalo's Hay days. The walking part of the tour including going inside some of the silo's is a must!!!

Excellent boat tour of the Buffalo River with a tour of the grain mills. The tour leader was very knowledgeable about the history of Buffalo and it's glorious industrial history. Definitely recommend.

“Outstanding - Discover A Real Gem”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

We have lived in Buffalo all our lives, and have boated down the Buffalo River in our own boat, looked at the industrial past and wondered about it. This week, we took the tour with Buffalo River History Tours, and what a difference when these sites are accompanied by the histories and stories. Awesome experience.

SIDEBAR: [My favorite was the story of the Shiras and the Tewskbury - two freighters that broke loose from their morrings in winter of 1959 and floated down the river, totally obliterating the Michigan Street Bridge.... Make sure you ask the guide about it, then visit the The Swannie House afterward, and while you grab a roast beast sangwich and a Guinness, you can see a 4ft wide aerial photograph of the crash on the 2nd floor wall ]

Rick (the owner) was our tour guide that day, and he is not only a wealth of knowledge, but he is a fantastic guide, and answered every question, and had tons and tons of stories and anecdotes to accompany the facts.... so it was far from merely dates and names being rattled off.

The stop off at "Silo City" is the highlight, where you walk through the remains of one of Buffalo's storied grain elevators/factories ( Malt Factory, made me crave a beer). You can almost see the operation in action.

They are passionate about Buffalo's history, and it comes across to you as a guest and you share their enthusiasm. Highly recommended, for tourists for sure, but for my fellow Buffalonians, a MUST.

“Great way to experience Old Buffalo!”

This was an incredibly fun thing to do on a summer night. The views are gorgeous and the history of the mills cease to amaze me. It's an inexpensive date night thing or family outing. Highly recommended.

“River and Grain Mills Tour”
Reviewed September 18, 2013

This tour starts at the Central Warf in Buffalo's new Canalside Development, where the Erie Canal once ended. The tour boat takes you back in time to when Buffalo was the largest grain milling center in the world by going down the Buffalo River, docking at Silo City. Silo City is an abandoned area of several grain mill silos (a few are still in use). You get to go into the grain silos themselves with an informative guide. It is gritty industrial heritage at its finest and well worth the money for a totally different tour probably offered no where else in the world.
