My wife and I loved our stay in Buffalo, the hotel was awesome and totally blew us away. Our room was beautiful and decorated to the hilt, for the price it was quite a deal. When we go to NYC we'd pay almost double for a room like that. My wife loved the Pan Am theme and I loved the large bathrooms, no bumping around in the morning half awake. It didn't hurt that there were 3 bars on property too, I don't mind saying we got a little tipsy after touring them all. Lots of events going on all at once, atleast 2 wedding receptions were going on that night, but this made for a very interesting night with all the guests flooding the bars through out the night. This is a great place to be if you enjoy a diverse crowd. We can;t wait to come back, my wife is already trying to get on a waiting list for New Years.

Room Tip: Try Butterwoods for breakfast their food is so good.

We had a great experience at the Lafayette. The lobby is stunning. The restaurant was lively. The food and wine were great and quite reasonable. Yes the hallways are a bit sombre but the room (junior suite) made up for it. We will stay there from now on. There is no room service until 11am but there is a continental breakfast in the lobby - there is a coffee machine in the room with coffemate :(, there is also no gym.

The valet parking was really quick ($20 a day + tip).

No fault of their own there is very little around in terms of restaurants and bars: you have to cab it (not always obvious to find cabs in Buffalo).

Most Saturdays are booked for the next year. My suggestion to them was to only offer Friday and Saturday reservations (2 nights).

All said we were really happy to discover this landmark and so happy that it was restored.

Oh BTW there's a fabulous bar on the main level for a night cap.

Thank you for such a great review on our hotel. We are so happy that everyone has been giving a positive response to the restoration that has been done. It truly has been a complete turn around for not only the hotel, but the overall perception of downtown buffalo. We are glad the decor of your room was enjoyable, our team takes great pride in the presentation of our rooms. We regret to hear that you were unaware that we have an exercise room. The front desk would be glad to direct you there on your next stay. We look forward to having you stay with us again.

The hotel Lafayette was the hotel of choice for recent business travel to Buffalo. I've been back and forth only 3 weeks for 4 nights/week, and all the hotel staff know me by name and always with warm greetings.

Junior suite rooms are wonderfully decorated, but the larger rooms with full kitchens are still being stocked and completed. They will be appointed with historical plates and dinnerware related to the PanAm theme that the hotel was designed for, which are on order from the historical society.

Should you happen to get a room that isn't fully appointed, simply call the desk and they make every effort to meet your needs quickly and kindly.

I commend the owner for putting countless hours of thought, time and money into this restoration. It's a work in progress with additional decorations and wall murals being added weekly. I have no doubt it will be the crown jewel of hotels in Buffalo upon completion.

The developers should be applauded for rescuing this historic building in downtown Buffalo. I'm just not sure that it's the hit it could be. Some workmanship was less than perfect (tile work, chair rail painting, for example). Several receptacles in my room (and others in my group) didn't function or the lamps on the night stands couldn't even be plugged into them. Elevator cab was laminate instead of wood. Floor dials over elevators weren't polished.

Stayed here for business in late September; was assigned a standard room but asked for and received an upgrade to a junior suite. Staff is very accomodating throughout the property.

In the common areas, some tables and chairs were comprised of aircraft-like riveted metal. This tied in with a mural of a vintage plane on the wall over the reception desk. Wasn't fond of this selection but others liked it.

First impression as you leave the elevator and turn into the hallway: scary and freaky. The hallways are very long and dark, with many doors (functional and not), the paint was a cross between gray/brown. No artwork on the walls. Carpeting was dark green, I believe, with white splashes at the edges that resemble EKG or Richter scale printouts. So institutional, like an asylum. Several coworkers mentioned the movie, "The Shining." I felt "uncomfortable" in the hallways, particularly when alone.

The rooms are nicely done, though they feel a bit crowded. Excellent linens. The bathroom was very functional. The junior suite was two tiered with a two-sided electric fire place and two large screen TV's. So many wall switches and still couldn't get the lights on over the desk Had to call the front desk to determine how to turn on the fireplace (one of the wall switches and a remote control).

Restaurants are noisy; food was fine in the Grill. Catered breakfast and lunch were fine. Excellent florist shop on the first floor.

The property feels a bit 'unfinished' in areas. The corporate price was good and the location is perfect for downtown businesses. Would I be anxious to stay here again, 'no.'

Thank you for taking your time to write this helpful review. Feedback is always encouraged as it can help us improve on all the fine details of this historic hotel. You mentioned a lot of great points for us to improve upon within our property. The staff was very pleased to hear your compliment when reading your review! We are currently working on adding artwork with historic value to the hallways. With the help of the Buffalo Historical Society this should be completed by the end of the year. We are glad to hear that you were pleased with the decor and style of your junior suite. We hope you stay with us again to see the progress we continue to make.

I am from Buffalo but had the opportunity to stay here after a friend's wedding. To know what it looked like before the restoration leaves one speechless to see it now. The historical renovations came out amazing - the hotel has been redone partially in French Renaissance (it's original decor) and partially in Art Deco (to give homage to it's Art Deco redesign). The lobby is beautiful and it has a few other awesome additions - Mike A's steakhouse - a pricey restaurant but getting rave reviews (save it for a special night!) and Mike A's lobby bar - funky atmosphere with great cocktails, Pan Am restaurant - not the best food ever but good wings and beer, Butterwood Desserts - full sit down restaurant and also great desserts, Room2 (Room is a local store that decorated all of the hotel's guestrooms), a few clothing stores and a florist. Lots of weddings happening on the first and second floor making it very busy on the weekends but not so much during the week.

The guestrooms are very unique and very cool - modern decor but with a vintage feel. Faux fireplaces, a wall mural. Very large bathrooms. Spring for the junior suite - well-worth it and only a little bit more money. The regular rooms are just as fun though!

Location - very centrally located in downtown Buffalo - near the hockey arena, business district, waterfront, Shea's theater, etc. Lots of restaurants in the area. If you want to get a drink head towards Chippewa and if that's too much of a scene for you, hop the train to Allentown or a cab to Elmwood.

Room Tip: I would assume that rooms near the wedding ballroom/banquet facilities are nosier

I really wanted to love the Hotel @ Lafayette because I want to support the restoration of old buildings in the city of Buffalo. The Hotel @ Lafayette has a ton of potential but it is not there yet. We stayed at the Hotel for our anniversary. When making our reservation and during my confirmation call I asked that we we not be near the reception rooms because we had been there for a wedding and knew how busy these areas were. Imagine my dismay when we looked out the window of our 3rd floor room into a courtyard. I thought because the weather was lousy and our bedroom was over another area this would not be an issue. But I was wrong. From the noises that went on most of the night we were located over a kitchen or storage area where things were being banged together, carts pushed around, etc. In addition the other visitors were running the halls and slamming doors until at least 2am. Our room was a Queen Suite. It was large but with little decoration. We had a full size kitchen without a scrap of utensils or dishes. Not a corkscrew, wine glass, plate or towel. Why have kitchen? The bedroom was adequate but did not have a luggage rack. The bed was hard as a rock. The shower was large but as stated before they wrap the soap up so tightly my husband could not open it while showering.

Now for the good. The floral store Woyshner's in the lobby is fabulous. We worked with a wonderful woman and went home with a large picture to go over our fireplace and a kitchen wall hanging, both at incredibly reasonable prices. There were a large number of great gift items and we will probably be back for Christmas shopping. The prices were great and everything was of very good quality. The next exceptional spot was the Butterwoods Sweet and Savory restaurant on the lower level of the hotel. We went to the less than acceptable continental breakfast in the hotel lobby (when did it become ok to wear pjs to breakfast in a hotel?) and decided to try out Butterwood for breakfast. The restaurant had the old wood floors, leaded glass windows and detailed columns. The tables were covered in white linens with flowers, sparkling glasses and silverware. A real step up from the breakfast area in the lobby. We had a unique breakfast of Banana Crepes Foster and their "Hangover" Pizza. Both were delicious and plentiful and our servers were great. This breakfast put us in a positive mood about the Hotel even after a sleepless night. I would be hesitant to wholly recommend the Hotel at this point but would be willing to give it another try next year.

Room Tip: Avoid 316 unless you are out partying all night and won't mind the noise.

My 3rd floor "suite" - badly furnished, exposed conduit, horrible shower head - only scalding or freezing water.
Breakfast - some lackluster pastries thrown on a table in the lobby
Banquet Area - wedding food was reasonably good - service was so bad it was actually the laughable target all night - no uniforms, chewing gum, surely attitude and most definately untrained staff

Room Tip: Don't pay for a suite. When I complained about the poor quality, bad shower, peeling paint on t...
