I worked at the school that was attached to the building. I could tour it during my lunch hour. Every month had a new exhibit to see. Worth the time to check it out.

Thank you for your review. The Charles Drew Magnet School is closed for construction for the next couple years and we've missed having their students over on the museum side every week!

We have new experiences opening all the time and strive to be THE destination for science learning for area schools and families. You won't recognize the place by 2016 with all the new science studios we're installing!

We hope to see you again soon.

Sincerely,

I've been for both special exhibits and as a new transfer to Buffalo. The special exhibits (one on music and Human Body) were OK. The overall museum is a tired repeat of dioramas with stuffed animals.

If I were doing the Buffalo Museum of Science, I would pick one thing and focus on that. For example, what about ecology? The entire museum could look at the chemistry, the biology, & the physics of ecology. Some sections could be local, discussing the ecology of the Great Lakes and have other parts of the museum relate to the impact on the world.

The Buffalo Museum of Science is OK, not great.

Hi Fliesler,

Thank you for your review. As a transplant to Buffalo we appreciate your initial reaction and feedback on your museum experience. While we do currently have a number of galleries showcasing collections pieces from behind glass, I see that your last visit took place in April when only the first of our eight interactive science studios had opened (Explore YOU which focuses on health, wellness and medical technology). Since then we have opened our Earth systems science studio, Our Marvelous Earth complete with a wind chamber, interactive globe and other hands-on stations focusing on weather, geological phenomena and alternative forms of energy. We've also opened a semi-permanent exhibit on nanotechnology and now offer National Geographic 3D films in our cinema.

We still have 6 interactive science studios to open in the next few years, replacing our static, collections-based galleries. These studios include Motion (June 2013), Insects (October 2013), Culture (March 2014), Biodiversity, Extinction and Culture. I encourage you to pay us a visit again in the future to give us another try - I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the changes! Plus, we're welcoming a blockbuster exhibit this summer - to be announce in early March - that you won't want to miss.

Thank you again for your review and welcome to Buffalo!

Sincerely,

We opened the museum and closed the doors as well. We had a great day there with our 10 year old scientist in the making. We recommend going to this gem in Buffalo if you like science and learning new ideas. Just make sure you bring a lunch or have lunch before getting there. There is no restaurant. There is a snack bar that carries pre wrapped foods to warm in the microwave. Not our normal style of lunch but we were not aware that no provisions were there. ....and it is pricey for what you do get.

I'm happy to hear your enjoyed your visit to BMS. We hope to see you again as we continue to open 6 more interactive science studios over the next few years. You and your scientist in the making will have more to explore with every visit!

P.S. - we are currently working on enhancing our food options in our gift shop and hope to offer more than just pre-packaged snacks and sandwiches by summer 2013.

Always has wonderful interactive exhibits for all ages, besides also featuring very interesting permanent exhibits on multiple floors. Ease in parking is a plus.

The museum needs to add more exhibits and update their current ones. The building is a big and old and the atmosphere reflects it. We went with my 4 and 2 year old grandchildren and the exhibits could not keep their attention. There is a hands on experience room which was enjoyable, but I wouldn't take the children back. We were looking for an activity during December vacation but this lacked in imagination and creativity.

Ann1948,

While I'm sorry to hear you were disappointed with your visit a year ago, please know that the museum has experienced many changes in just a short 12 months. Since your visit, we have opened two more interactive studios and still have six more left to install (2 every year) before 2016. We have also added National Geographic films to our 3D cinema, an interactive exhibit on Nanotechnology, and hosted a number of family-friendly traveling exhibits. When you visited last year, we were featuring our Journeys into Papua exhibit which was admittedly more adult-oriented.

The museum is currently undergoing its most intense transformation since it opened in 1929 and I encourage you to visit again sometime soon to experience all of our changes. You're welcome to set up a time with me for a personal tour to learn what the future holds for BMS and our visitors.
