Well, the good part of this zoo is, that it's so small and animals are confined in such small spaces, that I'm sure you kids can see the animals quite close compare to other zoos.
When we go during the Canada day weekend, a part of the zoo was under construction. It was a bit noisy.. not sure if the elephants and other animals will be stressed out as well with the continuous construction noises.
Now back to animals rights...
WHAT ON EARTH ARE THE POLAR BEARS DOING OUTSIDE WHEN IT'S 30DEG+ !? (86 F) I'm a human and I was sweating like crazy!!! Yes how kind of the zoo to put a jacuzzi size tub for the bears to cool down.. come on..really ?!?! Even if you leave 2 humans under the sun like this, they can't last very long with that tub of water!!
You will notice this is soooo wrong.. when the polar bear is just placed next to the lions den outdoor. One is from North pole, the other from South Africa. SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?!???
I'm sorry if I sounded rude.. but .. really... what is the polar bear doing outside :(
I've been to other zoos before where they kept polar bears in a cool / cold indoor... Is it just this zoo or does USA have a very low standard for animal rights !?
It appears that the construction is for an arctic center or something indoor and cool. But I believe this should be built before the polar bears arrive. I wonder if they will eventually move the polar bears in? Or just new penguins in as additional attraction...?!
And then comes the gorilla. Sad stressed looking gorilla. You can see it in their eyes. These animals are so smart.. yet kept in a very confined space with limited stimulation. The young gorillas seemed ok but the adult seems sooo stressed out.
The elephant looked very bored too.
In any case, I don't think I'll visit again.
