“Fun activity for a Saturday”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2013

We went to the Buffalo zoo on a Saturday afternoon and found it to be very nice. Parking is difficult and the Polar Bears were not there but that is the only bad thing we have to say. The animals have room to move in the enclosure's and the majority of them were out for us to see. The polar bear cub, Luna was adorable. Our favorite area was the building with the "rain forest". It was a very nice set up and a nice array of animals. We liked how we were able to see animals that aren't always seen at other zoo's. They had a couple of ant eaters that were able to be seen close up and they were very active. We will definitely make the 2 hour trip back in the future.

Hi and thanks for your thoughts. They play right into our strength. You can see things up close including Luna, our baby polar bear. Our current bear exhibit is closed pending construction and our capital campaign, "Our Bears Belong In Buffalo" but everything else is up and rolling as we look to the nice weather.

So, hopefully you had a great visit and weren't too wiped out from the Zoo to enjoy the rest of your saturday.

Thanks again,

“Smaller zoo with nice interactions”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2013

There are huge zoos in some cities that literally sell themselves as a destination. Buffalo is not one of those but sometimes that can be a good thing. Lions and other animals are closer than in most of the larger zoos and the rainforest is really unique with dozens of species from South America. It's not the best zoo in the world but it doesn't try to be, rather it is simply a half day experience well worth your time if you or your family loves animals.

Thanks for your kind words. We know we aren't a destination zoo. You can see all the offerings in a couple of hours as opposed to needing the whole day. We know we aren't Columbus or San Diego or a Zoo on that scale. We try to make up for it by a more up close experience. It's not perfect to be sure, but we think there is a place for a visit without leaving you too tired for whatever might be next.

Thanks again,

the zoo which was not great is constantly evolving with new exhibits and rehabbed facilities. A great place to take kids.

Thanks for your comments and your recognition that the Zoo is evolving. WIth our close confines in Delaware Park, we have been working to make the most of what we have available to us. The Buffalo Zoo of today isn't the one of 15 years ago.

“best part: Luna”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2013

Our zoo is the Cleveland Zoo and we tend to compare every other zoo to this one. Compared to the Cleveland zoo, the Buffalo zoo is pretty small and more run down. HOWEVER, we found each zoo employee to be extremely friendly and willing to help. And the best part? If you are going to the Buffalo zoo any time soon, you have to see Luna from 11:30-12:30 (daily), while she is still a smaller sized cub. She is their new polar bear, and we loved watching her explore. If you want a good spot to watch her, arrive early.

Thanks for your thoughts. Glad you enjoyed Luna. We believe you have a great, great facility in Cleveland and every Zoo is a little different. We've been on a steady campaign for a number of years to overall exhibits and have been building pretty steadily over the past decade that recognizes both our history but looks forward as well. I hope you can come see us again.

“Ok experience”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2013

I went to the zoo during the fall and the experience was ok... there wasn't many animals out.. such as bears, etc. The Bird sanctuary was the best part of the entire visit and the otters. Wouldn't go back but it would be fun for small kids.

Thanks for your thoughts. Our bear exhibit has been closed down in anticipation of construction, which is set to begin finally this summer. One of the things we've tried for our animals benefit is to give them a little space is to give them some more access and room to roam. Often species will rotate in spaces, so wait a moment or two and the view can change.

Thanks again for coming,
