“Okay if your bored .”

Took my kids on labor it was a dollar per person, other than that it would of been 45.00 for two children and two adults. There are not alot of animals there. Animals don't come out they seem to hide. Baby gorilla was the only cute animal worth seeing. Zoo okay if your bored and it fun for toddler children. It was worth the 1.00 not worth $45.

“Really enjoyable time, great for all ages,”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2011

The zoo is nicely laid out and small enough to get around in an afternoon. Our kids particularly liked the play area, the polar bear and the giraffes. The staff were really nice.
It's worth allowing a lot of time up at the back, because the map doesn't really make clear that you can go right around the building, via the vanishing species indoor area (which is excellent). The labelling actually said administrative offices so don't be misled!
I'd agree with other comments that the bears have a pretty sparse and hard habitat, I have to assume that these are being improved soon because other newer areas seemed quite appropriate.
The "beastro" cafe has a pretty good fast food/wraps selection, including healthy grilled chicken sandwiches and BLTs.
One downside was not being able to work out where the actual entrance was (GPS misleading me). It'\s on the Parkside Avenue side. There is a decent size car park so until you've seen that, you're just looking at back gates and walls.
All in all a great time. There's even enough under cover stuff to go on a rainy day.

“Nice day at the City Zoo”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2011

I decided to visit the Buffalo Zoo while on a 3 month work assignment in upstate NY. While I have to say, Yes I have been to the San Diego Zoo, Anchorage Zoo, and Asheboro, NC Zoos. I have high expectations of Zoo’s. It took about 2 ½ hours to view the whole Zoo, while it make take longer with children as there are more for them to do like the Bone Zone (looking for Dinosaur bones in the sand area).

Although the Zoo was small it had many good areas (that seemed to be upgrades) within the park. Some areas were off limits, not sure if that’s the way it was or if they were working to make it better. I got to see my first Indian Rhino and 10 month old baby Gorilla at the Buffalo Zoo. The Rainforest Falls was the best feature of the park; it provided good information about the Rainforest and animals that live there. The park grounds were also kept up well, but no hand soap in any of the women's bathrooms.

On the downside of things I was least impressed with the Bear section of the Zoo the most. While it was a depressing, gloomy, and nature less exhibit, the Bears (all of them) seemed to be lethargic and thin. The Polar Bear was just sitting in this small pool of water in a daze it seemed. The Polar Bear also had green algae growing on its fur. I felt really sad for them; this is not how we show animals living within a small concrete slab with a stick to play with. The Bighorn Sheep also was a slab of concrete instead of a dirt mount. The Sea Lion was closed due to Health Issues.

I believe in Zoos & Parks and in which we educate people about the animals and strive to treat them better and place/house them in more natural environments the best we can. Please support your local zoos and make them better for all. Overall it was a nice day visit at the Buffalo Zoo!

“Small but nice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2011

The Buffalo Zoo is one of the oldest in the nation and has gone a long way to update itself and refocus its mission to protect endangered species. Located right in the city alongside lovely and active Delaware Park, which was designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, it is fairly small but quite quaint. Don't be thinking San Diego, but it's still a great way to spend the day, and is especially well suited for young kids with its carousel, play ground, Erie Canal exhibit with antique barn and Bone Zone for digging. There are many hands on exhibits and play areas and my kids especially like the rainforest exhibit, where exotic birds fly free and we can walk alongside a waterfall. And the food concessions are pretty reasonably priced! Dollar ice cream sandwiches, $2 soft pretzels and hamburgers for $3.50.

“Needs a facelift, but they're working on it! My daughter loves it”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2011

I have gone to the Buffalo Zoo many, many times in my life. And, now having a young daughter and living in walking distance, it has become a family favorite. This is definitely a zoo you can confidently conquer in an afternoon. It is the 3rd oldest zoo in the United States, and some parts of it definitely look that way, but they truly are making strides to update the zoo and make it comfortable and inviting for visitors and animals alike. An extremely reasonable price, cute rides for the kids, and a GREAT rainforest exhibit that's a can't miss! There is also a Crepery/Coffee shop across the street (as well as concessions in the zoo itself), and the zoo is located in Delware Park, so you can also go for a stroll or picnic after your visit. As long as you're not expecting a state-of-the-art zoo experience, you will find the Buffalo Zoo is a cute little zoo to take your family to!
