What a lovely, local area. Independent shops and inviting restaurants. Beautiful park area crosses the intersection so you can sit out in the good weather and enjoy all the chocolates you have just bought at the shops.

It wasn't the cleanest strip or have a lot of options to choose from. It was a mix of a college and tourist area which could have some potential. Definitely need a makeover.

We recently made a shopping trip to Buffalo. In an attempt to widen our usual shopping circle away from the Airport and Niagara region, we ventured to Elmwood Village. There were plenty of great reviews online so we did have our hopes up. Supposedly it is 1 of the top 10 neighbourhoods in the USA. I have to say, I didn't understand how they would achieve that. I have been to several great cities; Seattle, Portland, San Fran, LA, New York City... And Elmwood has NOTHING on their neighbourhoods. The shopping was menial, the restaurants seemed good but nothing to write home about. The neighbourhood stretched over many blocks, walking up and down trying to find a suitable or interesting shop became kind of a drag. There were long stretches of nothing, or rather creepy/dark/dirty areas. The people were friendly though, and it does seem to appeal to the college aged people nearby.

We did find a couple of shops that were clean, fun, and eclectic but also overpriced. Very boutique or with a specific niche. We went in the late afternoon and left before dinner. We might give it another try, maybe we missed something?

I wouldn't go out of your way to see it though, you might be disappointed as well. But of course, ya never know until you try!
