After an early morning tour of Theodore Roosevelt NP's lovely South Unit, we were famished. Selections in Medora are slim at best,so we tried the breakfast buffet at the Chuckwagon - big mistake! We practically had the huge place to ourselves and could have all the cold or lukewarm, at best, been on the buffet for, apparently, hours food we wanted. When I say we had the place practically to ourselves, that includes the staff who were barely responsive. (Example, I need sugar free syrup - took a few attempts to rouse anyone and then, finally, a brand new bottle arrived. After removing the seal and using on the lukewarm french toast, I left it on the buffet in case someone else might want it, but someone returned it for safe keeping immediately). In their defense, the bacon was crisp and tasty - we both ate our fill of that. However, at about $11 each that seemed a bit extreme. Needless to say, we do not recommend. Perhaps arriving early or in season might help!

Ate the dinner buffet. Reasonable selection, price wasn't too bad, but they had a horrible fly problem. They had two employees standing by the buffet line to try to keep the flies away. Didn't realize at the time what their function was.

After we sat down at our table, flies attacked. The two of us were battling what seemed like ten or more flies for our food.

Finally it got much better after I finished my first plate and pushed it across the table as a peace offering to the flies.

With the fly issue I honestly can't remember how the food tasted. I have an issue with sharing my food that I want to eat with flies. Though I will admit I did go back for seconds so it must have been pretty good.

Big room with informal buffet line. Reasonable prices, includes all you can eat, with Coke products and Soft Service Ice Cream. Salad bar was OK, other items were well prepared but as is the case in most buffets mild on flavor. Biggest turn off here... they have a FLY problem. Biggest plus, Price and also have nice outdoor eating area if you like that kind of thing.

The buffet maybe reasonable priced but the food wasn't good. We left a good part of our food on our plate.

This is a "basic" buffet. Food is very mediocre. I don't love "all you can eat" buffet's in general and Chuckwagon is no exception. You can find something to eat here, but you're not likely to find anything wonderful about it. If you eat alot the price might be OK but it isn't fine dining.
