Very friendly staff. Big, clean room. Well-stocked library. We didn't realize that the restaurant was closed on Sunday evenings.

This is a great oasis to stay in your visit of this great area. The place is well cared for and the restaurant and facilities are great. We stayed and played here for a month.
Take in the hall of fame down the street. Visit the Natiomal Park nearby and hav a meal at the Cowboy Cafe.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms in the back of hotel

Visit the old west where hospitality , cleanliness, and friendliness comes first! Sit back and relax in this old fashioned cow town and you must attend the pitch fork fondue and musical to get your full dose of patriotism ! Amazing, every time I see the show it gives me goose bumps!
Well worth the trip!!

The hotel is fine, but expensive. Our room was sparse, with a single chair, no table, and bedside table and light only on one side of the bed. But there was a giant walk-in shower that could accommodate several people. Walls are thin and you can hear your neighbors. It is the best place in Medora, but the other choices are even more minimal. For what you get, it is overpriced.

We took a trip to Medora because it is the place to go in North Dakota, or so we heard. The Roughrider is in the location best to walk to nearly everything, so if you are going to Medora, and can afford it--this is the place to stay.

The Rough Rider's Hotel is by far the most updated hotel in the area. Everything still smells new. The beds are exceptionally comfortable. The rooms are an average size, but the decor does feel really reasonable for the time and location. There is a picture in the lobby that is truly magnificent.

There is a restaurant in the hotel. Having arrived late with small children, we tried it. My husband and I both ordered steaks. They arrived overcooked. At first we talked to the "manager on duty." After another overcooked steak, we left a little grumpy as the place is not cheap. We were called by the management who took care of the meal.

When you stay at any hotel in Medora, you can charge anything at the Theodore Roosevelt Foundation (which is pretty much everything) to your room. This is great, but it can be very easy to spend all of your money without even realizing it.

There is no on site swimming pool at this hotel; however you can walk about 2 blocks and use the one at the motel down the road. This was fine with our children, but not everyone is comfortable walking down the road in their swimming suits.

Sadly, many of the rooms in the area were used by rough necks (oil field workers) and many of the hotels are completely booked by them. This makes the town more like a ghost town than a destination as it once was. Even the Rough Rider Hotel seemed a lot like that. It will certainly make me consider going back.

Nice hotel with a good restuarant on the ground floor in the center of the city. Very clean with excellent showers.

This was our final planned stop on our 2-week, 4,100-mile Yellowstone & Dakotas road trip during mid-June 2011, and as you could guess, we were pretty much running on fumes by the time we arrived in Medora. The Rough Riders Hotel was the perfect way to cap the ‘vacation’ portion of our trip before we embarked on the drudgery of whipping home thru North Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The hotel perked us up and put smiles on our faces. Very, very glad we stayed.

Our lodging during this trip fell into 3 categories: Standard (Hampton Inns; Canyon Lodge at Yellowstone); Historic (Old Faithful Inn; Lake Yellowstone Hotel); and something my wife called ‘Western Chic’ (The Cody in Cody, Wyo.; Spring Creek Ranch in Jackson Hole). … Don’t mistake Western Chic for necessarily being a luxury resort that will wait on you hand-and-foot – sadly, $150 to $300 doesn’t get you that anymore. This is something spiffier and fun and in some cases more modern & expensive than Standard lodging. The Rough Riders is classic ‘Western Chic’ …

The exterior of the place is handsome. The lobby is impressive. The restaurant served a great breakfast that was worth the splurge. Wish the place had a pool, but we were only here one night. Our new-wing view was pretty creepy – straight over a backyard, but again, we were only here one night and I was the only one who bothered to pull up the blinds and take a look just out of curiosity. … It’s close to the Musical and the beautiful National Park and the interstate. The Rough Riders hotel is the heartbeat of the tiny, sleepy-but-super downtown and really completes the Medora experience. We loved it.
