My wife and I visited the Chateau de Mores State Historical Site on August 28, 2011 while camping at Theodore Roosevelt National Park, South Unit. The visit was one of the highlights of our trip and the story of the Marquis de Mores and his wife Medora was amazing! The museum and film are well done. But the center attraction is the Chateau de Mores with many of its original furnishings and enthusiastic, extremely knowledgable tour guides. Well worth our time and $7 admission fee!

We have been to Medora several times, but this was our first time visiting this state historic site. The entrance fee was $7.00 that includes the visitor center, museum and a guided tour of the 26 room summer house built in 1883. First we watched a short film explaining the area and the house that the Marquis de Mores built for his lovely wife Medora. In the visitor center there is a gift shop that has nice things. Then we walked to the house for a tour. We enjoyed the furnishings that were mostly original. For those that are unable to walk, there is a ride provided on a golf cart. The tour guides were wonderful and had much knowledge of the house and the area. We really enjoyed the paintings that Medora painted. Be sure you make time for stopping here. You will enjoy it for sure.

We toured the Chateau de Mores home on Aug. 8, 2010. Very knowledgable staff. Many furnture items in the home are original along with much of the personal items. Great to see a home that is over 125 years old still in its original state & location. If you enjoy the old west, I would highly recommend it! Plan to spend atleast 2 hours to tke it all in.

Both of our tour guides at the Chateau were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We enjoyed learning about the eccentric Marquis and his wife. The little town of Medora was unknown to us world travelers, but we found even five days was not enough to see and do evereything: Theodore Roosevelt National Park, the quite professional Medora Musical,a world class golf course called Bully Pulpit, Painted Canyon, good food at the Rough Rider Hotel, and a side trip to Fort Abraham Lincoln near Bismarck (restored Indian village and Custer's house). We are very happy we found this North Dakota gem!
