Russ and his wife Crystal led us on the most amazing Yellowstone journey! They both are extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife, flora and fauna, landscape, history, geology, and more! Their passion for their work was very evident! We saw nearly every example of wildlife in the park - grizzly bears w/ cubs, black bear w/ cubs, wolves, coyotes, fox, marmots, ground squirrels, elk, bison, osprey, eagles, deer: I think we saw it all. The wildlife was paired with stunning landscape views! Everything we did was so very well executed - the food, travel, lodging, and the people in our group were fantastic! I will most certainly be planning to attend one of their tours in the near future! This journey was above and beyond all expectations!

This trip was led by Russ and Crystal. Russ is the photographer. Crystal is the wilderness guide. Both are very good at their jobs and great company. Pretty amazing camp cooks too - smoked salmon anyone? The waterfalls are very photogenic and the scenery generally impressive. Campsite in lovely position but only one water source from a spring. No showers but relatively decent solar toilets but they ran out of hand sanitiser regularly. Side trip to Beaver Falls is not for the fainthesrted - crawling down beside 200 ft Mooney Falls through rock tunnels and then zig zag ladders slippery from the spray and some seemingly not totally attached to the cliff (there are chains to hold onto). Water crossings, walking over an abyss on a plank, climbing over cliffs with sheer drop one side and crumbly sandstone the other. And all with camera gear and tripods. And then you have to turn round and come back!! But was a fantastic experience.

Our guide and professional photographer Russ did and awesome job leading our Havasupai waterfalls trip. Well organized and carefully planed out locations to take the right images at the correct time. The food was delicious and plentiful. Great campsite with moderate hikes to photograph wonderful falls down the trail. Thanks Russ and Crystal for the fun and challenging adventure.

The week long springtime in Yellowstone with Backcountry Journeys is a fantastic trip. Logistically simple, with travel in/out of Bozeman and lodging split between two hotels so no need to pack and move every day. Three nights in the Old Faithful Inn was great. Russ is a fantastic trip organizer, willing to customize and adjust the itinerary to meet the needs of the tour group. In our case, we had a nice balance between the seeing and photographing the unique geothermal features of Yellowstone with several days viewing and capturing fantastic wildlife images including black bears, grizzlies, wolves, elk, bison, pronghorn, coyotes, bald eagles, osprey, and many others.

Russ and Crystal took us to Yellowstone. The trip was fantastic. They made sure we had all the opportunities to take fantastic pictures. They took care of all the driving, meals, and hotel stays which allowed us to just focus on the experience.
