“Friendly chain motel”
Reviewed June 11, 2010

A friendly chain motel, moderately priced. Unfortunately the breakfast was the usual poisonous motel breakfast - all carbohydrates and food additives. A little far out on the eastern side but near the Flagstaff Mall and next to a chain family restaurant, 'the village Inn' where you get 10% of the food.

I had no problems with this hotel. I was driving through and stumbled upon this hotel. Got a great rate and a spacious room with a microwave and fridge. The breakfast area was a little packed, but they had a good variety and amount of food available. I have had pretty good experiences with Super 8s and this one was one of the better ones.

when I checked in this place put my visa card under a paper and scratched a pencil over it. I asked why they did this and the clerk told me that is just how they do it. When I checked out the next morning I asked for the Manager and tried to find out who was responsible for that policy since asking other guest's who also had their cards copied in the same way. no one knew who's instructions they were following and after some reluctance one person finally told me the managers name but stated they didn't think she was responsible. I also asked for the paper with the tracing and was told the night clerk shreds them every night and mine was shredded already. As for the room the key didn't work and we had to go back to the office. The TV went in and out and was so bad. The toilet sounded like a jet engine and was the loudest toilet Ive ever heard in my entire life. And of course the pillows were totally flat. We stayed at the super 8 in Santa Clarita for 2 nights 5 days before this and it was so excellent we bought a mattress pad just like theirs when we came home! the breakfast area was very dirty but there was a new guy at the desk at 6:00 am who was the only nice person there. We were very disappointed and only slept about 6 hours and left.

If you are looking for a budget and cozy hotel you found the right place. The room are nice and wide. Very clean. The breakfast is huge in spite the space to be very small. Delicious pancake, juices and good coffee.

The manager and attendants are very polite. We were in a party of 12 and everybody loved this hotel.

Good location.

[All of the cities in the "Interstate 40 corridor" (Grants, NM, to Barstow, CA) are also impacted by the main line for the BNSF railroad so it is hard to escape train and highway traffic noise in any of these cities. Ear plugs are recommended].

Upon arrival, we were met by Greg in the office who was friendly and very helpful in getting us established. We sought a quiet room on the first floor and he assigned us to a suite (at no extra charge) at the far end of the property. This minimized the train and I-40 traffic...but we could still hear it. Pity the people in the rooms closer to the tracks. The room was clean, the beds comfortable and the wireless internet service worked reasonably well.. We chose this Super 8 of the three in Flagstaff because it had a Village Inn restaurant next door. The motel's complimentary breakfast consisted of cold cereal, mini-muffins and donuts, toast, coffee, juices, and waffles. There were several tables in the lobby at which to enjoy breakfast and chat with fellow travelers. Unfortunately, the two waffle makers apparently give off enough smoke to set off the room's smoke detector. Therefore, in spite of it being 20 degrees outside that morning, the staff kept the front door wide open during breakfast. It certainly kept people from lingering during their meal. In spite of that, I would stay here again.

I want to thank this traveler for their review. I would also like to address 2 of the main issues the traveler mentioned in their review. The first would be the train noise. Flagstaff, AZ has adopted a new city ordinance stating that the trains passing through our town on a daily basis are no longer allowed to use their train horn. They have instead, installed wayside horns at the railroad crossings. These wayside horns are 1/4 the noise that a normal train horn would produce. While standing outside in our parking lot, you may be able to hear a fain sound from these horns, but while in the room, you will not hear the noise. This ordinance is probably one of the best things the city of Flagstaff has done for the comfort of it's visitors. The second issue is the smoke alarm from the waffle makers during breakfast. We had noticed this problem about 1 month after adding the waffles to our breakfast menu. We have since then replaced the smoke alarm with a heat alarm and changed the type of waffle makes we use. Changing the smoke alarm to a heat alarm has no negative effect on the safety of our hotel. Before doing this, we consulted with the City of Flagstaff Fire Department. They assured us that we were still in compliance with local and state fire code. With these changes, I believe your stay at our location will be enjoyable.

walked in off street, had no trouble booking in, quite comfortable room, although it looked like it needed updating...stayed at this hotel 5 years ago & it looks like it did then...breakfast was ok, when we arrived it was pretty full, so had trouble eating breakfast standing up....good that it had sizzlers up road that we could walk to...thought we would try to stay between motel6's & super 8....usually around $10 difference, but you get breakfast at super8....would propably stay at this one again

This hotel does not measure up to the other Super 8's we have stayed in. Its dirty, noisy, has a very poor breakfast, it was a joke. Pillows were fithy and flat, blankets like burlap, towels were very rough, TV rolled on certain stations, ceiling light had no bulb. WiFi would not stay connected. No space for make up set up, it was apparently removed. Would never recommend this Motel to anyone.

First I want to start by saying thank you to all travelers who post reviews on TripAdvisor. Not only do your opinions let us see what we're doing right, but they also let us see where we need improvement. As of today, we are one of two Super 8's in Arizona that have earned a "Pride" rating from the Super 8 franchise and the only Super 8 in Arizona that has had it for more than 3 years. This award is not something that is handed out to just any Super 8. We have worked hard to make our property as clean and comfortable as possible. The Super 8 "Pride" rating is based on 3 main categories. The first is our quality assurance inspection that is done twice a year. The second is the number of customer complaints against our hotel and the third is the feedback from surveys sent to guests that have stayed with us. We have excelled in all three of these areas for the past 3 years. We take pride in making our travelers feel welcomed and comfortable. We have recently upgraded our breakfast to the Super 8 Super Start Breakfast. Although we do not have the same items as a restaurant, we do our best to have everyone leaving here on a full stomach. We have added fresh Belgium waffles, more cereal choices, and a few other items as well. Our rooms are spacious, with more than enough room for any personal items a regular traveler might bring on a trip with them. If ever staying with us, please feel free to ask for assistance in any matter and we'll do our best to accommodate your needs.
