Best Western Pony Soldier Inn & Suites
Ranked #12 of 66 Hotels in Flagstaff
Reviewed September 17, 2012

This Best Western along the historic Route 66 on the North side of Flagstaff is a convenient stopping off point if you're going to or coming back from the Grand Canyon. Other than the occasional freight train heard from across the highway, this motel is quiet and comfortable. It's easy walking distance to several restaurants. The staff members are friendly and helpful with information. Not the greatest, but certainly a good enough place to stay.

Room Tip: Rooms on the north side of the property are quieter.

We stayed there one night. The building is a long 2story building, kind of ok. The rooms are also ok, but the shower had dark spots in the corners, overall I've seen better BW, and we like to stay usually with these hotels. Breakfast was average, bagels, cream cheese, coffee, juice, toast etc. But presented in a proper manner. Overall, a little pricy, so average, but i would stay again, if there wouldn't be another better option.

Thank you for your review. Flagstaff is a unique city in that it is located on the junctions of Interstates 40 & 17, yet it is also a destination city, with the Grand Canyon and other National Monuments and Parks located nearby. These both are demand generators, which keep Flagstaff hotels quite busy and near capacity from May through October. Our pricing is competitive with hotels that have similar offerings. I am happy to hear that your stay was ok, despite the price of the room.

Thank you,

Booked a room there for 4 nights and when I called and asked for a quiet room away from Rt. 66 and the train tracks Beverly said no problem, and even upgraded us to a double queen room.
Check in was quick and efficient and room was nice and clean. Bonus was the vanity next to the bathroom where all your toiletries could be placed. About 8:30 that night the A/C quit cooling and being on the second floor, there are no windows that open. Called the front desk and they said Ryan would be there within 15 minutes. Less than 5 minutes later, Ryan knocked and after cleaning the filter, had the A/C working again.
This is a very busy hotel and seems to fill nightly, especially this time of year. Consequently, the pool was usually crowded and had tons of kids. The pool is small and with lots of kids splashing, not very relaxing for us oldsters. Not a fault of the hotel, just a fact of life on the road.
Front desk staff very friendly and accommodating with directions. One other small issue is the hotel location is not very close to eating places. You pretty much gotta get back in the car and drive to a restaurant. Lets see, what else is there? Oh yeah, newspaper at the door daily and you can take it with you to breakfast. Oh yeah, breakfast! Breakfast is across the way at a large meeting room. Same stuff you get everywhere, but not overly crowded and lots of the food available. Waffles, hb eggs, oatmeal, biscuits and gravy etc. Very good way to start the day.
Have stayed in many places in Flag, but so far this is the best value for $$ spent. Will probably return.

Room Tip: Rooms toward the back are quieter. No elevator for those that need one.

Thank you for the kind review. We are quite busy from May to Mid-October, and do sell out quite frequently. I am happy Beverly was able to upgrade you. We upgrade guests when we can, especially if they are BEST WESTERN Reward members. Our staff is very customer orientated, and our turnover is relatively low. We do have a few restaurants with in walking distance, an Italian, Chinese, and a Route 66 Diner, all nearby. Thanks again for your review.

Booked a one bed suite with one king size and 2 double beds . Room was enormous which impressed the kids. Room was a bit noisy with road and train noise , but we all manged to sleep well. Staff were very helpful and breakfast was OK. Grand Canyon is just over an hours drive away . Had a wander around Flagstaff which is a nice little town .Overall a good experience.

Thank you for your review. It sounds as if you were in our Family Suite, which is located in the front of the building just off Route 66. I am happy to hear you enjoyed your stay. Many guests will use Flagstaff as a hub, and venture out from there to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Downtown Historic Flagstaff, and the many other area attractions.

Thank you,

We stayed in a King suite room. It had a seperate livingroom & bedroom and 2 bathrooms ( I think they took out the wall and made a suite out of 2 rooms). It wasn't flashy but roomy & comfortable. We used our CAA card to get a discount. The front staff were incredibly friendly, polite and helpful and let us check in early.
There is free internet and breakfast, which is always appreciated.
Also a small pool and hot tub.
The bed and pillows were very comfortable and clean.
Carpets were newer and well taken care of.
Room was very clean and lots of hot water.
It was a little overpriced but I researched it on line and paid the going rate.

We stayed at this hotel many years ago and enjoyed our stay at the time so we thought we would give it another go after reading the reviews. While this hotel is showing its age, it is still clean, comfortable and the staff is very friendly. Hotels rooms can be expensive in Flagstaff and because we were in need of a room big enough to accomodate five adults we chose the family suite at this hotel. We saved ourselves about $75 by not having to get the extra room. The room was very spacious. The only drawback was that it only had one pretty small bathroom, but we made do.

I know a lot of people have issues with the trains since the tracks are so close to the hotel, but we have stayed at many different hotels in Flag and to tell you the truth you can hear it all over town.

We will definately stay here again if the price is right.

Thank you for your review. It is nice to hear you have stayed with us before. We actually have a high repeat customer base of guests traveling through on Interstate 40, or from Phoenix and Tucson who visit us to get out of the Heat or to see the Snow! Ever since the trains stopped blowing their whistles through town a couple years ago, it is much quieter.

I recently have started staying at Best Westerns on a regular basis since I've had some good experiences with them. This place was great for the price and has a great location. It doesn't have the best decor I've seen, but it is well maintained and clean. The staff was really helpful and friendly.

Thank you for your kind review. We try to keep pace with new trends. We recently installed new 37" LCD HD Flat Screen TV's, upgraded our Internet Bandwidth, and added new top of bed linen throughout the hotel.
