“Pleased with the effort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2012

I have a family of 5 (wife and kids 13, 11, & 7). We like cheap, safe and clean. This hotel was all of that. The hotel doesn't look like much pulling in, but there is evidence all over the place that someone is keeping an eye on cleanliness and details. The bathroom in our room was clean, and mold free. The room was clean, with 2 queen beds (decent) and spacious enough that we could get around.

The breakfast is true continental, without egg or meat, but the breakfast room is clean and spacious, and no one in my family went hungry this morning.

Given the staff efforts on this hotel, and the price, this is a reasonable choice for budget-minded travelers who want to spend their vacation money on something other than the hotel room that is occupied only at night.

Thank you for your review. Our breakfast offerrings is one of our highest guest satisfaction areas. We do have hard boiled eggs that many guests heat up in the micorwave.

As many know finding a place for good sleep in Flag is hard to do with that rail track right there every where.. I was upstairs about a 1/4rd of the way back on the West side and it was fine and I;m a light sleeper... I Got Sleep!!. No loud neighbors helped. The staff was excellent, I could not connect to the WiFi in the back of the hotel so they let me try in a room near the front to see if I could connect and if I did I could move since I had not unpack or made a mess of the room yet. Had a suite and it was Sweet!!! Nice lobby with some Route 66 items to pick up.. I'll be back to this spot...

Room Tip: Take a room upstairs on the West side, less train whistle noise..

Thank you for your review. Some guests have trouble sleeping in hotels, regardless of the noise issues. Flagstaff is an old logging town and now is on the main line between Los Angeles and Chicago. We do have ear plugs available at our front desk for those "lighter sleeping" guests that request them.

Room was nothing special for Best Western standards.
Barely fit family of 4 (2 school age kids) with luggage for snow season. Fridge in room was nice however heater clearly struggled to maintain temperature. Beds were ROCK hard and while the pillows were soft, they were way too small. Breakfast was average and located in a different building as was pool. "Heated" pool was barely heated.
Flagstaff has many other hotel chains from which to choose from for better quality/similar price.

This is always our destination hotel when in Flagstaff. The rooms are comfortable with WiFi and sufficient lighting to work or read. The continental breakfast is always tasty and sufficient choices are available. It seems to have been built with the idea to keep the train noise out and all we ever hear is a deep rumble as the trains go by in the night. Not something that would keep you awake - in Flagstaff its difficult to find any hotel that is not within hearing of the trains since it is a Main Street City with the tracks going along the main street. The daily paper outside your door each morning is a nice extra.

Room Tip: Probably further away from the street, but even in room 101 just off the lobby our last stay was qui...

We booked a room at the BW Pony Solder as a stopover on our way to Holbrook. Although the hotel and the rooms are dated, the staff and the service are top notch. The young lady at the front desk was great and very pleasant. We were pleasantly surprised by the very good "continental" breakfast, which was much more like a full breakfast buffet you get at most other hotels. Is it the Ritz? No. But for what you pay it is an excellent value.

Room Tip: The two room suite is a great value.

Pony soldier is actually on the old business "66", has the plaster pony out front and the neon that remids you of the old "66" but behind is a newer moted with a nice contenental breakfast and great rooms. Stay towards the back if you don't like train noise as it is noticable (but not too loud) during the night (there were several trains). Nice pool and hot tub as well to relax in after a day of hiking at the Grand Canyon. Be sure you do not miss Painted Desert and Petrified Forest National Park or Sunset Crater National Monument - plan for a several day stay!

Thank you for your review. Flagstaff is an excellent "Hub City" to see all that Northern Arizona has to offer. Many travelers use Flagstaff as a base and venture out from there each day.
