“A little out of the way, but it's a beautiful hike”
Reviewed June 10, 2014

The trail was easy to find, but it was farther away from Flagstaff than we realized. Nice, fairly easy trail, gentle include. Very pretty location at the trail ending, unique scenery. Glad we did it.

“Interesting trail!”
Reviewed January 7, 2014

This trail takes the hiker into the center of an eroded volcano, a very unusual and fascinating experience! The trail is about 1 1/2 miles long up a gradual slope. It should be fairly easy even if one is not in great shape, but it can get a bit warm in the summer and the hiker should take water, sun block and some head cover.

“Well worth the quick stop”
Reviewed November 9, 2013

This is a nice hike between Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon. Located at mile marker 247, just on the west side of the road. The hike is only 1.5 miles one way and well marked. You are really missing out if you don't hike up past the ladder into the canyon with the steep, lava rock walls. Everything before that is just a stroll in the woods along a wash. Well worth the quick diversion off the highway. No support facilities and the road and parking area are dirt. Road and parking are maintained so any car can make it; I made it in a rental Prius so I'm not making it up. Bring your own water.
