“Amazing getaway weekend”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

My boyfriend and I have been working like crazy lately, and decided we needed a weekend away. Our first thought was to head up to Flagstaff and stay at The England House, which we enjoyed so much a few years ago. So glad we did! Richard and Laurel are fantastic, they anticipate every need. The room was warm and comfortable and I looooved the claw foot bathtub. The house itself is beautiful, and feels very private - the B&B was almost fully booked this weekend, but we felt like we had the place to ourselves, except when we needed something - then all of a sudden Richard or Laurel was there to help. And the breakfast - delicious! Add to that the location, which is easily walkable to downtown Flagstaff, and we have every reason to come back again and again. Can't wait for the next time we need a break!

From the time we made our reservation at England House to the time we left the driveway we couldn't have expected so much from Richard and Laurel (the owners). In fact, it was more like staying with a very close family friend or with a very accommodating relative's house than a B&B. Before we arrived Richard provided a great overview of the area to my Fiancee on the phone and let us know that he'd be able to help with itinerary type details at the house. The day before arrival we let them know that because of an oncoming snowstorm we may be in need of an early check in, which was no problem for them as long as we called as we were leaving Phoenix.
When we arrived the next day we were greeted at the door by Richard who brought us through the beautifully renovated turn of the century stone house and provided us with an area map while taking the time to explain area sites and the best of the 85 restaurants in town to dine at! He also showed us where all the snacks and beverages for guests are whenever we'd like them.
For the room we stayed in the Song catcher suite which was (like the rest of the house) richly appointed with all French 200 year old hand carved furniture with a modern, comfortable mattress and ironed 1000+ thread count sheets.
The breakfasts and all of the food there is all organic, creative and unique. Both morning the food was deliciously original complimented with teas, coffees and juices of many varieties from around the world.
For our daily excursions Richard and Laurel would sit down with us and go over different activities and sites that are worth seeing nearby, even checking the weather and road conditions (to to the grand Canyon)!
What should really be pointed out beyond all of the features above and sets this experience head and shoulders above any of the B&Bs we'd stayed at in the past is the tremendous attention to detail, warmth of the owners and over the top service. At any price England House is a steal (it's already inexpensive in price though). There are only 4 rooms here so remember to book early!

We had a great time at this wonderful cozy place. The atmosphere is homey and comfortable. I have never been in a place that holds itself to such a high standard. Everything from the rooms to linens were very clean. The rooms and house were decorated and furnished with great attention to detail. The innkeepers very thoughtfully provided baked goods and wine and had extensive knowledge of surrounding areas. The breakfast was fantastic. I highly recommend this place to others.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the England House Bed and Breakfast. We were received with a hearty welcome and warm conversation. Richard and Laurel's knowledge of the area proved to be a great resource for enhancing our stay in the area. We felt more like residents than wandering tourists. Wonderful accommodations, and by far the most delicious and satisfying breakfast. All in all it was the best Bed and Breakfast we have been to in our world travels. I look forward to our return to the England House Bed and Breakfast.

Room Tip: We really enjoyed the Song Catcher room.

My husband and I stayed at the England House for the first time last weekend and we had a most lovely experience. From start to finish, our stay was wonderful! Upon arrival, we were personally greeted by Richard and Laurel (the Innkeepers!) and offered fresh-baked cookies as well as a nice bottle of red wine. We stayed in the Pantry Room (yes, it was actually a pantry at one time) and just loved it. Some might consider it small, but we felt like it was incredibly cozy like a nest.
The attention to detail in every aspect was incredible - from the craftsmanship of the house, to the decor, and to the food. The house itself is a work of art - with antique character combined high-end modern amenities. We slept on fine linens that were hand-ironed. At breakfast we were served a homemade chile relleno with rare Hatch chiles, and Peruvian coffee in English china.
We were extremely charmed by the England House and will definitely be returning for our next stay in Flagstaff. Thank you Richard and Laurel!

We had a Wonderful time at The England House. By far one of our Best B&B experiences yet. First of all Richard and Laurel are a pleasure to be around and are very informative of Northern Arizona. My husband and I went to the Grand Canyon and were given an awesome route that was stunning and ever changing. The breakfast was tasty every morning made from local organic ingredients. Fresh fruit, different fruit juices, and a new coffee daily. We stayed in the Star Gazer room which was beautifully decorated. The earring bed is so beautiful and the tempurpedic mattress was very comfortable. Not to mention the relaxing Jacuzzi tub. The decor around the whole house is tasteful/comfortable, and modern yet antique. Really loved the interior design. The house is also walking distance from downtown Flagstaff. That is all you need to get to the fun restaurants, bars, and local shopping. All in all we highly recommend staying here and look forward to coming back.

We only planned to stay one night at England House, but the hospitality innkeepers Laurel and Richard offered was so welcoming, we wish we had planned on a longer stay. Plus, there is so much to see and do in the Flagstaff area, it is definitely worth staying several nights to explore the area. We were welcomed so kindly by Richard, who gave us advice on a walking tour of nearby downtown Flagstaff, and restaurant recommmendations. His technique in marking a map is amazing to see, and so easy to understand. Our room, the Stone Cutter Suite, was spotless and so comfortable, with a separate sitting room with gas log fireplace and comfy chairs. We appreciated the mini refrigerator and tea kettle for late evening snacks. Laurel's breakfast the next morning was delicious, and the complimentary beverages in the inn refrigerator were a very nice touch. Laurel & Richard gave us so many good tips about what to see and do in Flagstaff: the Lowell Observatory, Museum of Northern Arizona, the Riordan House Museum, Walnut Canyon and Meteor Crater were all excellent sights they recommended. You could spend a week at Flagstaff visiting Grand Canyon, Sunset Crater, the San Francisco Peaks, Oak Creek Canyon/Sedona and Lake Powell, among other places near Flagstaff. We'll definitely be back to experience the comfort and hospitality of England House.
