Owner description: An easy one-mile hike near Flagstaff
Reviewed May 28, 2013

The hike was reviewed by Arizona Highways. The hike was nice with a reward of beautiful canyon walls at the end. Early May would likely have had wildflowers and more butterflies. It is a great break from the heat of the Sonoran Desert in Phoenix.

Northern Arizona has had a fairly good monsoon season this year (2008) allowing vegetation to flourish…including POISON IVY. Be aware! The Walnut Canyon (Sandy’s Canyon) area is overgrown with this poisonous plant! Ouch. Go somewhere else or, if you must (afterall, it is a beautiful area to explore), wear long pants, and have that bottle of “Tecnu” handy...
