“Adequate”
Reviewed February 1, 2012

There have been two monsoon restaurants. One was quite expensive. The other one isn't. Monsoon's On The Rim was the expensive version. It closed years ago.

Both are still listed here but clearly all the reviews are just referring to the less expensive restaurant downtown.

The restaurant is ok. Nothing great but ok.

“two hour wait, totally crazy”
Reviewed January 1, 2012

We love sushi, and Monsoon is the place we go when in Flagstaff. However last night new years eve got there at 7:30p and was told a25 min wait. We were seated at 9:30. Ok it was news eve, but that was the longest 25 mins I have ever experienced.
HOWEVER the sushi was great

“Didn't stay to eat”
Reviewed November 22, 2011

During an aftermoon walk with my wife we decided to grab a drink and a possible appetizer during happy hour. A young man on the day staff asked us to choose our seat. After we attempted to eat in the bar area, he informed us the service wouldn't be as good because we were the only ones sitting there. As he informed another server that she was in charge of us, she looked at me and rolled her eyes. I informed them that we didn't need to eat there and they turned the other way with no response and left me there alone in the bar. My wife returned from the restroom and we left. Unreal!

“Great location; poor service; so-so sushi”
Reviewed October 23, 2011

We keep trying Monsoon because it has a nice patio area with great people-watching and we can bring our dogs with us. However, this past Saturday convinced us that we're never going back. First, I asked if we could have a particular table so that we were close to our dogs which were leashed to the side fence. Surely that made it obvious that we were there to eat. Then for the next 30 to 40 minutes, no one give us the time of day as we saw others who came after us get menus, table service, drinks, food, the bill and then left. Finally, I flagged down a waiter who said, "We'll get to you when we can." What?! Another waiter finally took our drink order and seeing that there might continue to be a delay, we put in our order at the same time. We never did get table service until after we finally got our sushi which was mediocre. All we had were the tiny soy sauce bowls and chopsticks. No napkins or plates. When we asked for soy sauce but didn't get any, I finally got up and took it off another table. I believe the owners, Bill and Lisa, just don't care because the place is always busy due to its great location and the fact that a lot of tourists stop by. We're locals and we know better. We won't be back.
