Description: Welcome to The Cottage, formerly The Cottage Place. Join Chef Scott Heinonen and his team for farmhouse bistro cuisine inspired by the flavors of the French countryside. After 6 weeks of refreshing renovations, we are officially open for dinner and are currently accepting reservations. The Cottage Chef Owner Scott Heinonen is a graduate from the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. Over the past 30 years, Heinonen has cooked throughout the Southwest, Pacific Northwest and Northern California. He has also completed numerous continuing education courses at The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in Napa Valley. A highlight of this time was his stint as a private chef for Sir Paul McCartney and Heather Mills. Returning to Flagstaff in 2005, Heinonen was the opening chef of the popular Cuvee 928 Wine Bar & Cafe, where his cooking was met with rave reviews and created a culinary buzz with local gourmands. Following this time at Cuvee, Heinonen fulfilled a lifelong goal of operating his own restaurant. Tinderbox Kitchen opened in May of 2009, leading the culinary resurgence of Flagstaff and San Francisco Street’s “Southside.” Heinonen’s concept of “American Comfort Food Redefined” quickly made Tinderbox a regional favorite, garnering numerous accolades and creating an stellar reputation statewide. 2017 brings a new culinary chapter for Heinonen with the opening of The Cottage, formerly the Cottage Place. He has transformed this long time, Flagstaff fine dining restaurant into a stylish farmhouse French bistro, which opened April 23, 2017 for dinner service. The Cottage cuisine reflects the regional country dishes of France, interpreted with Heinonen’s modern sensibility, incorporating locally sourced ingredients. Chef Heinonen’s culinary passion is deeply rooted in cooking with the seasons and the ever-changing menu of The Cottage will emanate this philosophy. Diners can look forward to exploring French cuisine prepared with heart and soul.

“Excellent on all counts”

What a sensational send off from Flagstaff. Although we were 15 min early for our reservation we only had to wait 3 minutes to be seated. Kendra was charming and informed. The staff moved briskly but I never sensed harried ness on their part.

The cuisine was terrific from the squash blossom appetizer, the smoked Gouda and potato soup, the Parmesan encrusted scallops, to the Gorgonzola infused steak.

Only down side was a raucous party of 8 from Scottsdale at the table next to us who behaved as if eating at a sports bar. Not the restaurant's fault.

Simply terrific with all details. This is your splurge in Flagstaff

“Everything was exceptional”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

My review is a bit tardy as we visited the Cottage Place back in July. We enjoyed the Chef's tasting menu and were not disappointed. The dishes were unique and beautifully presented. The wine parings were the perfect choice with each course. We each chose a different entree so we could sample each. We were seated on the patio on a perfect, clear evening. They initially were concerned it might rain on us but the weather cooperated and it was perfect. This is truly fine dining is a cozy, quaint cottage setting. Amazing evening!

“Do not miss this place if you love good food!”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

This place is wonderful so if you love food and are in the area, dont miss it!

*This is a cute little restaurant with great ambiance. Perfect for a romantic evening.
*Food is delicious! I had the filled mushrooms (very good), file mignon (superb) that came with sides and salad and soup, and chocolate cake. I choose the classic ceaser that was very tasty and also got the soup of the day (garlic) that was great.
*High service level with great waiters and a nice touch with chef/owner Frank coming out to all tables asking how the food was.
*Prices. At about 190 $ with tip and tax for 3 course dinner for 3 with a bottle of wine (+ salad and soup inc in the filé mignon) is a bargain.

*That this place is so far away from our homeland Sweden.

“Good food poor service”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

We returned to the Cottage Place after a long absence and was treated to a mixed experience. Once arriving we waited in the small ante room while waiters looked our way and ignored us. Finally we were seated and still the waiters ignored us while attending patrons seated on both sides of us. One couple next to us arrived after us and were taken care of before we were even acknowledged. The staff were definitely not service oriented and no apologies were offered for our long and seemingly unnecessary wait for attention or service. The food was great and beautifully presented. However the long wait for service spoiled the tone of the evening.

“Exquisite ! Food, atmosphere and service all first class”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

I love finding good restaurants with no pretentiousness. The service here was first rate, not over the top, you were made to feel welcome and true guests. The food and wine combination was such a welcome change from the majority of restaurants where taste lacks subtlety. I would return frequently if I didn't live 1000 miles away !!
