We built in a couple of days in and around Flagstaff, as it is an easy jump to the Grand Canyon, Sedona and so many national parks, from here. Very centrally located to almost anywhere in AZ. Nice little historical area to cruise (rte 66 runs through town), shop and eat. As a photo-collector of old painted brick wall ads, I was in my element. Not too big, but big enough for what you need while in AZ. Eclectic, historical and funky. Pretty quiet district at night, other than a few restaurants.

The Historic Downtown area lends itself to a leisurely trek on foot. Parking can be a bit challenging, but if the whole idea is to meander, that really isn't much of an issue. There is a WONDERFUL little bagle shop - do wish I could remember its name. The area is a pleasant blend of little mom-n-pop shops and trendy restaurants. A great place to stretch your legs on a Interstate 40 cross-country journey!

The historic downtown district wasn't very historic at all. If the old buildings did have historic value, you couldn't tell by walking past.

We only spent a few hours here, but there are restaurants and shops every few feet. Very walkable and fun to look around, plus plenty of options if you're in the mood for food or snacks.

Old West downtown, nice to walk around, some good restaurants and shops. Safe to walk around. Limited parking. Note, downtown also extends to the south side of the railroad tracks -- this isn't apparent when first driving into town.
