Owner description: Built in 1904 for two Riordan families, Riordan Mansion is an impressive reminder of gracious living in a small, territorial logging town. The historic building is an Arizona treasure — a remarkable example of Arts and Crafts style architecture featuring a rustic exterior of log-slab siding, volcanic stone arches, and hand-split wooden shingles. The expansive home has forty rooms, over 13,000 square-feet of living area, and servants' quarters. The Riordan residence was designed by the creator of Grand Canyon's El Tovar Hotel, Charles Whittlesey.

“Lovely!”

Very interesting mansion! The tour was a little long however (1-1/2 hours) and the docent spent too much time on ALL the pictures. My back started to ache from standing too long.

“Nice tour”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

We diecided to visit the Mansion because it was designed by the same individual who designed El Tovar at the Grand Canyon. Its very well preserved and the guide gave us a good overview of the family's history and the development of Flagstaff.

“Pioneers' Turn of the Centuray Mansion”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

The Riordan Mansion is a great stop while in Flagstaff. If you have a week, a day, a half day, or three hours in Flagstaff the Riordan State Park will fit in perfectly to your schedule. Guided tours only through the mansion, and a self guided tour around the grounds. Tours start every hour and last about the same(10-5 summer time, 11-5 winter); I can't remember how much it costs, but it's less than10$ and worth every penny (youth prices available).
You get shown through the mansion, while learning about the building itself, the family, the town of Flagstaff and all the while get a glimpse into turn of the 20th century life. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. Our last visit was during the Christmas/winter holiday season, and the Mansion was decorated for the season, lights, antique Christmas ornaments and garland, presents and a huge tree decorated by a local elementary school class. Great for locals and visitors alike, helps give you a sense of how and why Flagstaff is the city it is. If you're a NAU student or visiting one, you should check out the mansion because not only is it on campus, but without the Riordans NAU might not even exists.
Worth a visit whether you visit Flagstaff a lot or if you're only planning on coming once.

“A step back in time”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

A very interesting guided tour of the Riordan Mansion. Half of the mansion is set up as it was around a hundred years ago, and the other half is a museum. It was really neat to see how people lived back then, especially people of privilege. Our tour guide, Nikki, was awesome. Just the right amount of enthusiasm and knowledge. She truly made the tour special.

The lady who took us on this tour of the mansion was spectacular. She made the whole tour worthwhile and so very interesting. Take this tour and you will not be disappointed. This is living history. Children and young people need to see this.
