You can't drive by the Grand Canyon, it's one of the seven natural wonders of the world! But its OK to miss Sunset Crater. If you're a hiker, I can see where this would be worth a couple hour visit, but for a family the park is not worth the fee. All there really is is an overlook of a massive lava flow, a very accessible hike through powdered lava with views up the back of the cone, and a visitors center with a fun seismograph. I understand there's another crater and a very nice hike for the more adventurous, but we did not avail ourselves of these items.

Lots to see and lots of walking. Very interesting and few visit. One of our treasures. Volcanic area with great explanations of what you'll see. You can even climb a cinder cone. Have fun.

Seriously AMAZING, another fine example of the power of nature. Grandparents, parents and kids all enjoyed the hikes. Easy walk among the after effects of this volcanic action, shade when you need it and plenty of good information throughout the walk. Make sure to stop at the visitor center.

The sunset crater and lava flow was a site to see. Taking the longer trail was worth doing so you can see up close the lava layers, the ice cave, and the parts that have yet to redevelop. Kid friendly walk.

Great trail! Magnificant to see! I believe that I read all the mountains around were created from volcanoes, and yet this site with the hardened lava still so undisturbed...really neat!! Put on insect repellant to maximize your enjoyment.
