“Great View of Life After Volcanos”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

This is an incredible park to visit. Parts of it reminded me of the Galapagos Islands.

It is easy to hike around since most of it is very flat. It is very interesting to see what happend to the land after the volacano, and how nature is doing her job to restart different life forms.

Don' miss this unique park.

“Interesting hike thru the lava flows.”
Reviewed June 22, 2013

This detour on our recent exploration of N. Arizona was a nice find. The visitor center was informative and friendly. However the highlight for us was the hike through the lava flows. There is a secondary trail off the sidewalk ( a little off the beaten path) that takes you through the lava flows. It is pretty cool and serene and makes for some awesome pictures.

“Good for Volcano Remnants”
Reviewed June 14, 2013

This is a good trip to see the lava flows and effects of a volcano eruption. The staff were friendly and helpful. Take plenty of water, though there are several areas where you can refill. Some of the trails are much more strenuous than they look so choose accordingly. Well worth the trip if you are in he area, especially with children. If you travel completely through the park, it gives you some views of the Painted Desert and several Pueblo Ruins.

“Hidden gem in Flagstaff”
Reviewed June 14, 2013

This park wasn't even on our itinerary but we're glad we found it. We didn't even know there were volcanoes in the area. The hike through the lava flows was a great experience and good for taking photos. There is a separate trail to the top of a hill across from a scenic overlook of the lava flows. It says 300 feet but it feels a lot longer so be sure to bring water. We did see some people go halfway up and come back down. Overall this was a great park and something we didn't expect to see. Stop at the visitor center on your way in to get a map and see the exhibits.

“Beautiful”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

We drove the scenic route and took the lava trail up the summit. It was a heck of hike STRAIGHT up hill in thin mountain air, but the view was worth it. Would definitely recommend it. The view of the volcanic ash was truly awesome and we got some excellent pictures.
