“Do NOT eat lunch here”
Reviewed September 23, 2011

yikes.. how to be nice and still be truthful... our "reuben" sandwhiches were microwaved right in front of us.. canned saurkraut.. generic thousand island and corned beef from the safeway deli. they were so nasty we couldn't even get through them. judging by the other comments breakfast must be where its at because lunch is definitely not their strong point! very sad for a restaurant at a prime location in flag!

“Best breakfast in Flagstaff”
Reviewed August 31, 2011

Have been to Cafe Del Rio twice now for breakfast. It is a little gem of a restaurant on South San Francisco Street. It has just recently opened for breakfast and has some wonderful dishes. My favorite is the enchiladas with eggs with either red or green sauce, homemade hash browns and the best beans I have ever tasted. They also have omelets with spinach and mushrooms, breakfast sandwich, breakfast burrito and chilaquilles and eggs. Serious yum! Lisa is friendly and you feel like family in this very interesting and nostalgic restaurant. They have a wonderful lunch menu as well. Down home cooking at its best!

“Perhaps the best Flagstaff breakfast in town. Good food prepared fresh.”
Reviewed August 23, 2011

This place is open for both breakfast and lunch, but for a weekend breakfast...I know this may be sacrilege for a Flagstaffian to say, but I like this place better than MartAnne's.

First, the warnings. They're slow. You will spend some time sitting at your table sipping coffee (which isn’t the best, but others like it) conversing with friends. It can take up to 45 minutes to complete your meal here.

That being said, you'll still probably be done before you've gotten a table at MartAnnes. And there’s a reason that you wait awhile...they're cooking your food basically in front of your eyes. While the décor can be a little overwhelming, lots of western posters and paraphernalia etc, it’s fun to have an open view of the kitchen to watch your food be prepared.

Once you go with the understanding that it will take a little time the place is worth every penny. The restaurant is run (I believe) by the former owner of Cafe Ole and her friends all of whom cook up a storm. When she's overwhelmed she simply calls in some additional friends to lend a hand.

The portions are hearty and the sauces are stunning. The breakfast menu changes daily, usually with 5 or so everyday selections and a special for the day. In that regard the menu is a little limited for breakfast, but choose something, you really can't go wrong.

I've sampled or had the breakfast burrito, the Chilaquiles, veggie enchiladas, Chili Relleno Pie and a few others. The portions will fill up even the most hung-over and quite possibly will leave some for lunch for those who just want a good meal.

I personally would stay away from the Chili Relleno Pie and burrito. By all means both are good and if that's your fancy, go for it. However their other menu choices, I think, are better.

This place has quickly become a personal favorite for my friends and I before heading to Sedona for the day or having a leisurely day. Go eat at this hidden Gem.
