Imaginative dishes with creative ingredients. My first time here as I was visiting Flag for a class but I will definitely come back to eat here!

A bit pricy for Flagstaff but excellent food and service. It has become our go-to place for a birthday or anniversary.
Years of passing through Flagstaff have convinced me that fine food is not one of its charms. How wrong I am. Tinderbox Kitchen has a very eclectic menu with so many interesting choices. The salads were delicious (a little copious) and the main courses very special. I had a comfort food meatloaf wrapped in bacon. Service was very warm and the wines (local) were just fine. Well done!
The warm atmoshpere and lovely decor make this a good place for special occasions. We did not order dinner, but many entrees being servied around us looked quite interesting.
We stopped in for dessert; these were generous and tasty, but perhaps bit too sweet. Next time we will try the entrees. The restaurant is in the downtown area, and does not have a lot. If you are driving, parking must be found on the street.
While visiting in Flagstaff we tried Tinderbox and were very pleased. The menu is filled with unusual combinations making it very hard to make a choice. We had two starters and could not decide which was the best - the porkbelly with blue cheese grits or the mushrooms with goat cheese. The venison steak was served with blue cheese grits, figs and walnuts and was a show stopper. Scallops on pureed butternut squash served with mushrooms and kale was a piece of art. Superb presentation of each dish added to the experience. Our server was knowledgeable and helped us make some wonderful choices right through to the dessert. We will certainly be back on our next trip.
