Description: Tinderbox Restaurant was the first elevated-cuisine restaurant on the south side of downtown Flagstaff. Owner Kevin Heinonen has received multiple accolades for his renovation of Tinderbox and companion restaurant concepts The Annex Cocktail Lounge and Tourist Home. Together, all three concepts were the first to bring a sense of “specialness” to the Southside. Chef Schmitz serves up well-executed spins on reimagined American fare: sweet corn bisque with lump crab, chili oil and cilantro ($10); robust mussels with house chorizo, white wine broth, cilantro sprouts and baguettes ($14); pork belly with cheddar grits, pickled vegetables and balsamic reduction ($10); potato crusted grouper with garlic-braised rainbow chard, tomato lobster broth and crispy leeks ($20); pork porterhouse—bone-in chop, bourbon-peach bbq sauce, warm mustard potato salad, baked beans, creamy coleslaw ($22) and many other starters, entrees, sides and shares. “Tinderbox Kitchen is at the epicenter of the Flagstaff culinary awakening.” —New York Magazine. “Best Restaurants in Flagstaff,” Arizona Republic. Tinderbox is located at 34 S. SanFrancisco Street in downtown Flagstaff. Dinner is served nightly from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Great food and great (or even good) service do not always go hand in hand, and finding the perfect atmosphere to go along with this is also quite a challenge these days.

The people running this show know what they are doing. The place is easy going and laid back. The food is exciting and incredibly delicious. The service was what I needed, attentive and knowledgeable and effortless. The decor was pleasing. I was impressed from the moment I arrived up until the last bite. It is hard to find a place like this!!! GO EAT HERE! Had smoked salmon with a potato aioli and raddish and herb salad with foccacia OMG, hot and sour meatballs (mouth watering with the perfect kick), Venison over goat cheese whipped potato and red onion marmalade FREAKING good, and a very note worthy dessert, banana and coconut creme brulee with macaroons....I died and went to heaven. Bravo!!!!!

I completely agree with a previous reviewer that said this restaurant should be rated higher! I dined at Tinderbox this evening and enjoyed the entire experience. The food was fantastic. I started with the tomato soup which was excellent and then had the scallops which were done perfectly with great flavor. The service was very attentive and I will definitely be coming back the next time I'm in town!

I was surprised to find how low this restaurant is rated in Trip advisor since I had heard so many good things about it so I finally went to see for myself. I am still surprised about the low rating since I thought it was all very good. My husband shared 4 courses. A Posole soup (could have been hotter but that's the only complaint), followed by a grilled cauliflower salad that was so unique and tasty. Blue cheese grits topped with barbq pork belly confit....my favorite course of the evening. We then shared the Duck Duo platter, ducked cooked 2 different ways. Everything was very flavorful and the timing on the courses were perfect. Sharing each course made it a very affordable meal while we both left full.

This is a great restaurant located in the newly renovated area of Flagstaff south of the rail road tracks. Intimate setting and fun twists on old classic comfort foods make for a lovely evening. They also have a fun bar next door called the Annex that you won't want to miss. Leave the kids with a sitter.

Friends thought that this was a wonderful restaurant so we tried it, once! The food was about average. Not horrible but certainly not excellent. The service was acceptable but certainly not above average. Prices, however, were well above average. This isn't a horrible restaurant but it is certainly very very overprices.

And parking can be a serious problem.

There are far better restaurants in Flagstaff and restaurants that do not cost nearly so much.
